Thread: PlayStation 8in1 game disk

    PlayStation 8in1 game disk

I found a 8 in 1 game disk for the PlayStation on a flea market today. I've never seen a PlayStation pirate disk with more than two games, so I decided to post a few pictures here:

Actually the disk holds only 5 games and not 8 as labeled. It has a boring game selection menu titled as 'Best 3D Actions'. The games are full versions, but a lot of video and audio has been stripped out.

I assume the makers produced disks with other genres, because the label of the disk shows a few jump and runs.

Unfortunately I have only the disk, no jewel case, no inlays.

I have a Chinese HK Silver which has 3 games on it. Contained a hacked-on menu and all the videos for the games were stub files. Some games also didn't have audio ether. Came with your traditional Chinese pirate inserts.

i've seen a lot of them, one with all the king of fighters for psx (without music), another with all the vs. series (marvel vs. street fighter, etc.), a gran turismo compilation, crisis beat+fighting force...well, they're not rare here in Argentina.

    Gran Turismo Compilation? Wow!

I wonder how they managed to put 3 game discs in just 1. :-0

Anyway, i saw those bootlegs as well, but a long time ago. Crash Pack (1,2,3 and CTR) is one i remember.

I still think it's too much stuff for 1 disc. I guess they added GT1 and GT2 arcade disc. Either way, it's quite an achievement.

Actually most PS1 games aren't that big if you cut out the streams (FMV, Audio Tracks, and XA Audio). What is left is just the basics that don't take much space at all. But it's sad when you see people passing around ripped versions. Is there actually someone out there that doesn't mind the music to be absent? Ok with FMVs missing making the experience disjointed?

Just like any pirate they'll need a mod chip to boot.

Not really much different from a demo disc, expect that the front end menu is stripped down and the games themselves likely have content missing.

You can make one of these yourself by taking a multi-game demo disc as a starting point and editing the files before reburning a master disc.

It's kind of funny how they sold. Back in the day, Chinese stores in Toronto used to sell Silvers for a flat rate. Like $15 to $20 per disk. If you got a multi-disc game, you'd have to pay for each subsequent disc. It was stupid because if you wanted FF7 for example, you'd have to pay almost the same price as the original game!

I suppose if you were really cheap, those x-in-1 PSX discs were kind of interesting, but most people knew that they were "sucker" buys. If you just got the single disc no contents would be ripped or missing. But I think everyone learned the lesson once by getting at least one of them.

I knew they made these for dreamcast, but never for ps1. Yeah a lot of data is often sound and fmv. If it's someone really clever they might program some compression techniques for the files but I doubt anyone would put that much effort in a ps1 bootleg.

If I recall, some scene hackers wrote an on-the-fly decompressor for the Skies of Arcadia DREAMCAST scene release. That took some dedication, but it was a big game (in scale, disc size, and demand), so it was warranted in that sense.

I had that Crash Bandicoot one, and coincidentally, it crashed a lot.

The games were incomplete, so at some point, the system would just black out.

I actually have the exact same disc compilation that I found years ago, with Akuji the Heartless, Syphon Filter, Small Soldiers and Apocalypse. For 2 years now I've also been interested in making my own compilations, which you can do with with Loser's boot menu. It's pretty darned fun to do, and I've made some pretty interesting ones.

I remember the really old bootlegs came with a small cutout center of a real disc and you had to do some sort of swap trick or load trick.

    I never got one...

Looking to buy a multi disc and a silver with cutout for my collection if you have any for sale.
