Email theft by scammers, the new 419 scam

I got this, it's from the stolen account of someone I once
    had business with:

    Hi,

This had to come in a hurry and it has left me in a devastating
state. I'm in some terrible situation and I'm really going to need
your urgent help. I came to visit a resort center in London, UK. But I
got mugged by some hoodlums and lost all my cash, credit cards and cell
phone but i still have my Passport with the Hotel Management, it's
such a crazy experience for me. I'm financially stranded right now and
my return flight leaves in few hours time but I need some money to
clear the Hotel bills. All i can do now is to pay the Hotel bills, so
i can have my Passport from the Hotel Management and get out of here
quickly. Please i will like you to loan me some cash, I'll definitely
refund it to you as soon as I arrive home just need to clear my Hotel
bills and get the next plane home, Once i return home tomorrow, I'll
refund it immediately. Write me so I can let you know how to send it.

I will appreciate your kind response..

    --------------

So I responded with : "Sure I can send the cash if you can get someone
to paypal me the western union fees."

Who know, I might just make a profit on these scammers.

    :flamethrower:

What an old fashioned scam. But the naivete of people shows that they don't have to come up with something new.

I hope you can get a few bucks out of him, maybe that will make him stop scamming people.

i think they need to get a real job, this is embarrassing.
You can ask for any old woman
You can ask for an army of ants
You can ask for a pillar of poison
You can ask for sheep and shavers

    And you can die for
Be careful what you wish for

I run in to this guy here in Amsterdam once in a while, he is Dutch/blond blue eyed in a nice suit and tells people that he got robbed and needs cash to buy a trainticket home (to borrow him the money etc)
The first time around I actually believed it seeing his appearance, but as usual nobody get's my cash.
More funny was running in to him a month later with the same story/and he didn't remember me and seeing his face when I told him he asked me before

Same deal happened to me with a Family member. In order to avoid taking any chances, I said I'd help if he could provide me answers to some skill testing questions which no one could answer except the person in question.

This one was cool, but I believe none can best out the one about the astronaut who got abducted and probed by martians :-)

No one gets my cash unless they physically ask me either in person or on the phone.

Another thing is that all the people in my email are on my MSN so if on the off-chance that someone who i would gladly lend cash to emails me then i can ask them to chat on MSN about the situation were by i would ask them some questions to make sure it was them.

Never send money over the internet unless its a purchase or a trusted seller you know (ie for donations to a site or a release).

    Here's the reply:

Glad you replied back to my email.. Am really confused right now as
the return flight ticket has expired already, so i will have to rebook
for another. I have nothing left on me and i'm grateful to God that i
still have my life and my passport cos it would have been worst if
they made away with my passport. I have limited access to emails for
now, please i need you to loan me about $500 so i can make arrangements
to sort my bills and return back Home, I am full of panic now and the
police only asked me to write a statement about the incident and
directed me to the embassy,i have spoken to the US Consulate here but
they are not responding to the matter effectively,I will refund the
money back to you as soon as i get home. You really need to be prompt
with your response as i need to leave the country as soon as possible.

You could help have it wired to me via Western Union. Here's my info below

    ----

    And my reply:

No problem m8, can you send me a pic of the "I luv mum" tattoo you got on your ankle last year? Need to make sure it's you. The one done to look like it was calligraphy. Cheers

You should have just said "your tattoo" and maybe he'd send a pic of some random tattoo, like off the first page on google image search.

When he sends a picture of the tattoo, ask him why it is on the wrong ankle.
