NAMCO PS2 ext. HDDs recovery

Today i got my two Namco PS2 HDDs. First i connect it on my laptop over usb. The HDDs are formated. I think about quick format and check the hdd with an free recovery tool and WOW! Both discs can fully recover the partitions! Take some time to recover, will post whats on the discs. Looks like source files. Im not really sure. My knowledge about PS2 is not big.
Will be back soon with more infos. Have to recovery two discs ;-).

Devs aren't pc techs. They just use the tools they have.

I use Easeus for recovery. The tool shows me two ext2 partions with full size of 67GB. But first run only 800 files from 1200 recovered (22GB).
The first ext2 partition shows:

Anyone can tell me what it is?
Maybe i use an better tool?

Try OnTrack's Easy Recovery Pro. I've used it before and had good results.

Maybe i wrong, but its not for linux partitions. The HDDs are EXT2
edit: now i try Stellar Phoenix Linux recovery. Looks good, but takes many hours...

My Laptop runs Win7x64.
Stellar Phoenix Data Recovery runs over night and i got all data back!
3,58GB, the Game is Xenosaga :dance:. Stellar do it very well, nice tool!

The second one has only 20Mb trash on it...
Im not sure if the data from the first on can be use for anything.

For the one are interested i sell the first one (with 3,58GB). I bought two of them but need only one disc.

I know there's no point on saying it now (I suppose you formatted the harddrives already) but the most proper way of recovering data from PlayStation2 harddrives is with this homebrewn tool:

While the utility is targeted into recovery of mangled HDL hard drives, it has an APA SCAN feature which undo deletion of SCE partitions. :thumbsup:

The commands to perform an APA SCAN and undo deletion are:


hdl_dump query

this lists the drives connected to the system.

hdl_dump initialize hddx:

this quick formats the drive in preparation for the recovery. x is the number for the HDD the tool identifies as a PS2 harddrive. BE CAREFUL as reckless use of this command can cause data loss on the other hard drives.

hdlsalvage hddx apa scan

this lists all partitions within APA (Aligned Partition Allocation) boundaries

If you like what you see you finalize with this command:

hdlsalvage hddx apa commit


And then all deleted partitions will be available again. :thumbsup:
As long their area isn't overwritten they can aways be brought back with this method...


Also, the pictures shown are from the retail game. They appear during the install of the Japanese version onto the harddrive.

The Japanese disc for the Xenosaga game can do neat things like install to the harddrive for quicker gameplay and save directly to the "Your Saves" folder on the harddrive instead of using an memory card.
