You have to be able to play this on a train without hitting someone.
Tilt sensor on the right. Both screens have touch capability by the look of it.
3d sensor.
Sadly resolution won't improve much, the screens are too small and high resolutions
would be hard on the eyes.
So tilt for pov, 3d for the stylus, touch both screens.
well if the resolution is like on the PSP that would be good.
but if you look to the mobile phone market, they have a lot of small screens with high resolution. And if its true that the 3ds is bassed on gamecube hardware then they should not go with to low resolution anyway.
I hope the final 3DS will have two screens of the same size/format. I don't like the look of two different screens.
Well, the size of that monster isn't reflective of the final, I mean, look at the old prototype for the game boy colour. (If anyone remembers that beast)

nintendo proto hardware tend to have the same footprint.
Looks like the 3DS/CTR cartridges are gonna be of the same size/shape as those from the DS.
I hope they will break the 256MB limitation.

The only limit is cost of making the ROM chip... hehe

Huh, I wonder why the CGB prototype board power switch, has 2 off positions?

who said the 3DS is based on GC hardware? O_o

this could be fake but this all i know lol,
on a forum i went on, they did a interview with a developer that had the early version of the 3ds sdk, and he said that sdk is very similar to the dolphins sdk.
so if that true, it could mean that hardware will be like the game cube and developers that used to work with the gamecube will have an easy time making games for the 3ds.
that's all i know XD
well there has always been some kind of "pattern" in HW capabilities.
NES -> GB/c
SNES-> GBA
N64 -> DS
so everyone hopes that the 3DS will have GC capabilities.
I can see what crediar meant here...
The Game Boy (Color) in average has the same amount of usable power for a game than an NES console.
An SNES could be compared to a GBA (the GBA is more powerful CPU wise but in terms of graphics capabilities it's quite close)
And the closest match for the N64 is indeed the DS. Of course the DS has more power but then it was released *only* 8 years after the N64...

Well allow me to disagree to some extent.
I can appreciate the analogus leap in technology from platform to platform but the GBA was a far cry ahead of the SNES and the DS doesn't hold a candle in front of the N64 for most purposes in terms of power.
If nintendo wanted to re-use old hardware designs they could but as you see they make unique portable devices, not based on a current home console.
I think the new PowerVR stuff is pretty good for most 3D handheld applications of today. Not that I wouldn't love GC graphics on my portable.
hint: they always go for cheap, tried and true technology and configure it as they see fit.

It makes sense, you could port GC games easily and have a huge library in no time.
Remember, they did patent a 3d device for GC way back when but never built it.
The DS doesn't have more "power"..it benefits from more modern memory and a simpler SDK but lacking an FPU puts the precision for floating point operations pretty low compared to the N64.
Good point on the 3D tech there Kev, I remember reading about it on IGN before Nintendo Revolution was even announced.

Hmm.. I wish that picture was bigger, I wonder what processor they are using. If they are planning GameCube-like hardware, it's probably a PowerPC variant... but Nintendo seems to favour the ARM lately for portables.
