d_higemaru : runs full speed with sound
d_mitchell : not yet tested on real saturn, i haven't enabled sound yet but Pang and Super Pang look already good

d_pkunwar : runs full speed with sound
d_sys1 : not full speed with sound I try to find ways to increase speed

About sound quality, it's not perfect because i'm not really good with sound rendering on saturn

What about Hang-On Jr, it could run if I port the MAME driver (System E) to Final Burn.

I kind of doubt the Saturn is fast enough for either band-limited synthesis of PSG audio or the necessary filtering on FM audio to achieve high quality alias-free audio. Even the Dreamcast would need highly optimized algorithms.

Couldn't you use the SCSP to "emulate" the PSG/FM features though? From what I've heard, it's a crazy flexible unit and it's FM capabilities were criminally underused.

If the FM voices can be configured to OP* operator algorithms sure. I also see that the chip has a DSP unit but I think it will only do the most basic filtering needed for FM. PSG will still need a software implementation since the FM unit can't simulate every type of noise channel or complex envelope generators etc. Since the DSP unit can't be used for high frequency decimation I think band-limited synthesis will be a must. FM and VDP emulation are still quite suited to HW acceleration though.

    Hi vbt,

I am wondering if you have available a binary file version of Higemaru which could be loaded using the ARP cart (& DataLink). Thanks!

Now that's what I call a f***in' win! Do you think Contra or The Legend Of Kage would be technically possible as well?

Off topic and old, but I played both today (comparing the composite video of my Genny vs S-Vid on my Saturn) and the Saturn seemed to slow down a lot, at random spots on EHZ. Very weird, felt like something was wrong.

Sorry, I forgot to reply, for sure I have a par release, it doesn't include the latest improvements, I try to update it and send you a binary

About contra, I tried only one game with M6809 so I can't say. About The Legend Of Kage it has too high spec.

    Hey vbt,

Sorry for the super-late reply. I have tried your Higemaru binary, loaded to the Saturn using a USB DataLink, and IT WORKS!!!

Thanks for making this! It is a pretty fun game, too.
