I wanted to get some opinions on this. Basically this week Yakuza 3 will finally be hitting US store shelves, with hostess bars and other very non-westerner ideas deleted.
Now this isn't surprising, but whats surprising is they are releasing this game that was so requested by fans against the US release of Final Fantasy 13, one of the biggest games of the year and for the PS 3.
The easiest answer is Sega wants it to fail. They probably spent about $30 and some employee lunches localizing it in order to appease the fans who demanded it. When Yakuza 3 was released in Japan it was huge. It could have been huge in the US as well, with the proper marketing. Its not going to happen.
I've seen this happen in the movie industry, films getting released in one town and then going to dvd. But this may be a first for a video game. Any thoughts?
