Take it apart and check the LPC for a modchip? If there is no modchip then its definitely softmodded.

Not true at all. A system with a flashed TSOP will not have a mod chip.

Easiest way is to yank the hard drive, put in a blank one and see if the sucker boots off DVD.

Another easy way is to boot up xbmc,it will tell you what kind of bios your running.

And yes you can use Slayers for what hl718 said.

See this is why I shouldn't reply to posts at 3 AM. I completely miss read TSOP as modchip.

Sounds like a softmod to me.

You could just change the dashboard to whatever you want or you could flash the tsop since its already softmodded.

There's no XBOX live for it anymore. Flashing the TSOP only have pros now.

The only things you need to observe is:

    - Flashing the TSOP requires you to re-connect the chip's WR and CE pins to the southbridge (2 jumpers).

    - The flash image you can write depends on what kind of motherboard you have.

Regarding the flash image, I recommend the Xecuter 4981 as it's 256KB and fits on all motherboard versions up to 1.5. (1.6 is not flash-able anyway and it requires an LPC modchip to be modded....)

    - Certain models of motherboard use Winbond flash chips which are not supported by the EVOX dash built in flasher, meaning you will need raincoat (running from XBOXlinux) to flash such chips.

Once flashed the box will be completely yours to play with. No worries about messing up the files on the HDD, putting a new drive is just a matter of installing and running an installer disc such as slayers or AID.

That would be my choice if the board was 1.6 and modded with an LPC modchip...

There's no TSOP to flash on the 1.6 motherboard.

It has the XCALIBUR video encoder instead of the Conexant/Focus chip and the XICLOPS chip as SMC. No PIC based SMC, no TSOP, no FLASH. The ROM/KERNEL is embedded into one of the two chips as an MASK ROM.

Oh, I know that. I was replying to your post which seemed to indicate that you would only use M8 on a 1.6 board.

I was simply saying that I prefer M8, even on 1.0-1.5 boards where I'm TSOP flashing.

    Sorry for the confusion.

Does M8 have any special features ? I particularly like the Xecuter because it has a very god IGR which does not cause hangs most times. Also I like the customization options it gives through bios edit programs.

I'm curious about your reasons for liking the M8.

Evox M8 and Xecuter 4981 are very similar in features, however M8 will boot OpenXDK xbes. AFAIK, 4981 won't.

Run a few more tests, error 5 with another HDD, 13 without HDD

    I guess its just softmodded

After some study on the Xbox's internal I think I can take a new drive and lock it (I already have the lock code from the UnleashX menu) and install the softmod/dashes on it.

I think there is a boot disk for the PC which does all of this Ndure something, am I right??
