Sega ST-V problem

...after boot (showed at screen), appears black screen!

In the boot is showed the cartidge's name, so I think the cartidge is ok (I have only one).



Any ideas?

I have never used the Sega ST-V, but one of my friends does. I shall fire him an email. However, it may still be the cart. I had an MVS cart that would do something similar (but the screen became a patch work of colors rather than just black) and I needed to clean the contact points. It took a bit of cleaning, not just a dust.

I shall be back if / when I hear anything.

Definitely clean inside the slot and the cartridge contacts to begin with, my ST-V did this when it first arrived, cleaning the contacts fixed it

There you go, directly from an owner who had the same issue! Let us know how you got on and post an image. What cart is it you have for it, or did it get bundled with the motherboard and you are looking for something in particular?

Isn't Radiant Silvergun on ST-V? That's one title well worth looking for, but some of the prices appear a bit high to me.

Definitely 15Khz, what game are you trying to play, and does your motherboard have the correct bios for the cart's region?

the mobo is region free with homebrew switch, and I tryed with DieHard Arcade (PAL) and Pro Wrestling (JAP)

Is it one of those ST-V multi bios chips (see third item down)

or when you say "homebrew" is it someone's DIY attempt?

Just a thought, but it may have either been fitted in-correctly (if you didn't have proof of it working previously) or perhaps it has failed.

There are 2 x small microswitches on the motherboard right next to the covered expansion slot.

When the BIOS boots press SW 1 to enter test mode. Use SW 2 to select each of the test options and press SW 1 to run them.

Please run all of the self test options for the cart and motherboard and let us know how it goes.

all the test of the mobo it's ok.
when I select the cartdige (name is showed on the form) crash, with both. But I'm sure they are full working

Okay - quite difficult to ignore that the carts are not passing the tests, but lets try to rule out other things.

There are 2 x SH-2 CPUs at the opposite end of the board to the test switches, can you carefully check the soldering on those is not damaged, please.

Check the reverse of the cart slot and make sure the soldering is okay there. Apply some pressure to the top of the slot while you do to make sure the slot hasn't lifted from the PCB.

Failing that there could be a leaked capacitor somewhere that has eaten some traces

(Some photos of these soldered areas might help - in fact some photos of the board in general would be a good idea)

That's normal, and from what you've told me so far doesn't really lead me anywhere other than either faulty carts, damaged CPUs or damaged traces

No problem re: help, It would be useful if you could open the carts too and take pictures, just to be sure it's nothing obvious

I guess we can safely say it's a CPU problem, how about a macro mode photo of those SH-2s, please?

They might just need resoldered.

EDIT: Never mind I can clearly see you are taking those on a phone, how about as good a picture as it'll take instead ;)

Yup...

Classic soldering problem on the SH-2 processors. I've fixed a few of those boards.

I also have some problems with my ST-V board. With and without the cart the board freeze after a few seconds. I cleaned up the contacts and try it without battery and so... Any time a freeze...
Any suggestions?
Can it be that the jamma pin assignment is different for ST-V boards? Sorry have no idea.
My Cave pcb runs without problems.
