FS/FT: Sega Naomi DX 50" arcade cab / refurb (UK)

I am interested in a part-ex / cash for my Naomi 50 DX as it doesn't look like I'll be hiring it out any time soon I'd rather someone else got the use out of it plus have some of my garage space back. I have no real idea of value, however let's for the sake of argument assume approx. £700-800 (it has had £450 worth of work done on it within the last few months). Don't be shy, if you are interested make an offer as I may accept!

First the bad news: The main issue is that the supplied 40" Samsung LCD screen has some screen burn in the bottom right corner. I spent a few hours cycling through a series of colors and static to reduce the problem and it helped, but then the unit was due out on hire and I had to stop. Subsequently I've not really had the time to hook a laptop up to the screen to run further correction apps, plus I believe it's the kind of thing that will correct itself through usage over a longer period of time than I will ever have this unit switched on. Having spoken to a few people about it, I am confident that it can be reduced even further if left cycling through R/G/B or B/W for some time (a few days). It is noticeable mainly on white or green backgrounds, but it remains present and I am not going to lie about it, but it is a damned sight better than the rubbish rear projection screen I removed from the unit.

Secondly, the main seated section could do with a spot of welding to repair damage caused by years of people sitting on the seat. If you are planning on hiring it out you should have it sorted out. I doubt whether it would be an issue for personal use unless the eventual owner is of the large persuasion! I only really became aware of it once it came back from hire. I can ask a friend of mine to weld it for you, but it would be at cost (no more than £20-30 tops)

However, the rest of the unit is in excellent condition having been cleaned and reworked. The DX shipped with 2p /6 button as standard, but I have increased it to 2p / 12 button. 2 x Brand new Sanwa sticks and brand new matching Sanwa buttons. The audio output is second to none! I wired the unit up so that no additional power cable is required, just a single kettle lead input. I also used a professional display panel and not a TV, so when the unit is powered on it selects RGB input and you don't need to constantly reach for the remote control (supplied). I also set the unit up so that the remote IR and power LEDs are visible through pre-drilled holes in the newly fabricated bezel. It was done in such a way that you cannot see the LED whilst playing the game, but only when you kneel down in front of the screen ;-)

You will also have the opportunity to determine whether you want the unit with or without a Naomi 1 motherboard. Personally, I think this unit is ideal for a Taito Type X2 motherboard running a 2p title like Trouble Witches or 2 boards or Satellite running SFIV). However, it's the best damned Naomi unit I have owned and really shows off titles such as Zero Gunner 2 and Capcom Vs SNK brilliantly.

Open to offers of an item or item and cash or just cash. I'd like another cabinet (something I don't already have) plus some cash, preferably something like "Namco Ridge Racer V" or whatever, just make an offer and I'll let you know.

Note, you'll need a sizable space to house this unit (it currently occupies approx. 1/5th of my entire garage space.

Based in Glasgow. Unit comes apart (4 pieces) for easier transportation, but a large tail lift van is necessary.

    (Proof image coming shortly)

It's a great game. I like it so much I have been looking to see whether I can obtain the prequel and sequel titles.

DHL should ship it for free. They owe you one.

Then again, it might end up in South Africa. :110:
Great cabinet by the way. Not something you see every day.

At this rate it might be wiser for me to avoid DHL, just bolt an outboard motor onto the cabinet and set it in the general direction of the European continent. DHL seem to use a similar method. How does a parcel for Bradford, UK end up in Stockholm, Sweden? Clearly labelled too!

Cheers, it's an unusual cabinet for an individual to have, it generally is the sort of unit found in businesses. It takes up a bit of space though eh!

You really can't blame DHL for not wanting to come to Bradford mate

This is a lovely unit. If I had the money and the space I would snap this baby up in a breath.

Sell a kidney and we can talk about flat pack, I am sure Sega and Ikea could come together on this ;-)
