Yeah thanks for the clips, unclejun! I didn't have them in my Sonic Xtreme archive which is on my external hard drive.

Holly Sith, you're awesome dude. Kudos for the clips!
The production of silence in art is an utopian enterprise.
If we disregard the alchimie du verbe, traditional language cannot capture the essence of what we attempt.
It possesses utility only so far as it can construct boundaries. Forgive me, but I truly believe that music encompasses more, not stumbling in logic and formality.

Hey, hl718 hope you're still readin this topic, I've started my little remake again and I've got a few further questions. Looking from the magazine scans it looks like the Timer in the HUD counts down (From which I'm guessing is 5 minutes like in the 718 build) what happens once the timer reaches to :0 seconds, can you remember?

    Thanks!

I'd like to say I can, but any answer is going to be a bit fuzzy in that respect as I really wasn't motivated to just sit there and watch the timer on the game. ;)

I want to say that when the timer reached zero Sonic would loose a life and the boss fight would reset. What I can't recall is if that is what happened or if that is what someone told me at the time should happen.

If it were me working on the remake I'd pause the action, have the death sound play and have Sonic bounce up and fall down (similar to the old 2D death animation) when the timer hit zero. Then have it reset at the beginning of the fight.

    Thanks for that suggestion. :)

And I've just thought of another question, what was Metal Sonic's AI like? Did Metal Sonic follow Sonic or was he just randomly hovering around the arena?

As I recall, Metal Sonic's AI wasn't fully evolved, but he would follow Sonic around the arena. I believe he moved slower than Sonic, which had the effect of essentially telegraphing his moves to the player. Once he locked onto you he would either fire on you or charge you.

For what it's worth, I think it's very cool that you're working on a remake. It might not be the original, but with enough effort you can probably approximate the level pretty well.

Ah ace. I had him following Sonic's moves already slowly. I'm currently working on it as I'm typing this and keep coming up with some issues, so I ask here. I'll definatley be putting you in the credits of the next release since you've helped so much answering these questions. :)

I'm currently getting the camera to match up with the centre of the arena from what I've seen in the magazines but I'm having trouble to decide if there was a wall on the right hand side since it gets in the way of the camera. Don't suppose the arena actually had some kind of an invisible wall on one half of the arena (Towards the camera) so it looked something like this:

Or was there a wall there on the right?

Anyway, once again, thanks for all this information. :)

GML unfortunately since I'm using Game Maker. =\ Did start doing a conversation to lua script so that it ran on my PSP though. But it was merely a tech demo. Hope to recode it in C someday though. It's just I already had a basic Sonic Xtreme engine made for Game Maker, so I thought might as well use that and build my way up from there.

Very cool, Ollie. I started a remake of the Green Hill Zone level to familiarize myself with the Dreamcast environment, but only got as far as recreating the overlay and animating Sonic's movement with the directional pad. The progress you've made so far looks great.
