Time to Purge my sony products

Buy a blue ray movie... go to watch it on my PS3.. get error needs some damm blue ray update? Go to system update comcast box messes up..Ok Fix internet connection and get PS3 update still does not work...What the Hell. PS3 is all original no mods nothing and this is a Damm movie. I am sooo pissed With such little free time I have this really bites. makes me think my new years resolution should be to get rid of all sony products and never buy anything from their company again. Little free time hate it when it is wasted like this.

I really don't have the TV to play BluRay movies the way they should be played, which means that buying a PS3 for the benefit of blueray playback isn't economically feasible for me at the moment.

usually when i didnt play a specific game for a week or more when i start it up it needs anywhere between 3 to 10 minutes to update and there is no way around that.
I welcome the updates dont get me wrong, but i would prefer being able to choose when to install them.

As long as you don't want to play online you should be able to skip the update - what annoys me is there is no way of grouping all the updates in one go...

The PS3 knows what games I have, why can't I have the option to download all updates in one go (when at work or asleep).....

Word. Chinese electronics don't give a damn about those kinds of things. I remember when exploits were found for Macrovision, Region coding, etc, DVD manufactures would make updates and bend over backwards to disable/fix them. Chinese manufactures? They just ignore the spec, blatantly leave a menu(s) in to disable it, or even advertise it as a feature!

Except that no update has taken anything away. Hardware models perhaps, but updates always add something from my experience.

The two things that did disappear that I am miffed about was the ability to pause the game when you pressed the PS button, and the Sony Playstation 3 jingle before the game started.

There should be an option of "I am not going to buy any bloody games online so stop giving me adverts"...

If you aren't going online or playing a game online then you can play games offline without being forced to update. I put off upgrading to V3 for weeks..

You can set up the PS3 to shut down automatically, so you can start a download, go to bed and wake up knowing that the update is installed and the machine is in standby. I remember the first time I had to update the PS3 from V1.00 to V1.1 or something and it took hours to download then all night to download Gran Turismo HD...

My problem is time or lack there of. between job, school, volunteer work, and family 10 minutes is huge. add to it the issues comcast boxes can have with internet, comcat and murphy I swear are joined on this one, and a 10 minute update turns into 1 - 2 hours. WIth how little I play games I tend to expect an update may be needed with a new game and I time plan for it but a movie? Good grief... all i wanted to do was watch Ice age. I should not have to update my player for it. DRM and blue ray, once again sony. Next time I wil just buy a dvd and know it will work. Forget blue ray.

In the long run they are going to kill the golden goose. Between mandatory updates, mountains of monthly fees, bandwidth limits and pay to view webpage’s, it will come to a point where consumers will just pass. I can't stand when they make their problem, my problem. I too have little time and when I want to sit down and play, that’s what I want to do. But the way things are I have to wait for their stuff to upload or plan ahead by downloading when I am not using the system. Newsflash to publishers, playing games isn't a job and I'm not so excited about the material that I will treat it as such. Make it convenient and don't put the burden on me. On a side note, unless something changes in the economics of the video game industry I only expect thing to get worse and less convenient as time goes on.

I don't mean to sound weird but I think updates have more benefits than drawbacks.

The fact that they are continuously striving to offer better services and functionality is commendable, adding more value to an existing asset. Arguably most of these new features aren't anything special, as I have come to realize myself.

That said, I' d rather get updates in the hope of bettering my experience than having to go through the limitations of a static and featureless box.

I know how video games are supposed to mainly play games, but the convenience of having everything in one neat box is just to great to ignore.

Some of us who are older remember the days where we dreamt about having a console that's constantly online, gives you the ability to download demos, let alone movies, can browse the internet etc.
SEGA turned many heads with the Netlink's concept as well as the DC's online capabilities. Remote networking and eventually the internet, were always on the to-do list and this is the first generation they're being an integral part of the experience.

This tremendous evolution is something I m glad is finally here to be honest, and although I loved my NES, N64 and all other consoles, I can very well appreciate the multiple benefits of this generation.

I call it a nightmare that I never wanted. I understand the desire for some to have an all-in-one box, but I still believe that it is a minority. The more things that a box can do, the worse it will do them. Games are so buggy now because they are rushed out the door with the mentality that "we can update it later". Unfortunately, this happens less often than it needs to.

But why is all this "progress" so inconvienent? There has got to be a better way. Maybe add the udpates at the end of a play session rather than the begining. Also the reality lies in our pocketbooks, I will simply vote with dollars as others will.

Also mairsil is right. In some cases we are getting half done stuff because they thought they could fix it later or worse we end up with left4dead style promises that never materialize. Kids are getting busier, adults are the busiest they have ever been and college kids are losing thier spare time little by little each year. I am telling you, the more inconvient the process becomes the more people will simply tune out new content or systems.

Too bad that the chinese make alot of shitty quality products. While I'm not a fan of all the DRM and similar things I am a fan of high quality products which alot of the stuff coming out of China is absolute garbage.
