Nintendo TS - Tegra System or maybe even 3DS

According to this PC Perspective article, there's a new Nintendo handheld in the works powered by the NVIDIA Tegra. It would seem that unofficially people are confirming that the next gen handheld is indeed going to be using the Tegra chipset.

So then, dual screens, cameras, wifi, bluetooth, larger internal flash and full DS/DSi backwards compatibility (until the TS lite comes out ). What else could Nintendo possibly do with their new handheld? Ideas on a Postcard to.....

They could continue to release a load of educational crap and gimmicky bollocks. Still, it will have some good games but do you really need a super powered hand held? The screens are just too small to be worth it.

Nvidia's new graphics strategy for mobile devices is commendable. If the next Nintendo handheld does include such an advanced (For mobile/low consumption standards) graphics system it should be interesting to see the results - I m not worried about battery life since this tech has been designed for the mobile market in mind, and some cell phones will be using it as well.

Pfff, This is nintendo. I don't expect any major bells and whistle(like bluetooth). It's most likely going to be like the DS but a bit more power that will probably be around a gamecube.

If you want to see a powerful handheld, I'd say look to sony as they probably will throw something crazy into a handheld (much like the PSP was leaps and bound above other platforms at the time).

Well according to the rumors that were floating around a couple of months ago, the PSP2 will be as powerful as the original Xbox.

I do agree with Yakumo though, I think handhelds are getting to a point of overkill. We have home console for all this fancy 3D stuff, leave 2D for the handhelds.

well it's always been standard that a portable is always about a generation or 2 behind compared to the current gen which makes sense.

    Psp=ps2ish

The game boy color was basically a portable nintendo

    etc

Hehe i hope they dont call it TS as square already called it that as in Nanashi no game theres a handheld you use that looks just like a ds & they call it the TS, however the games dont come on carts they are passed round wirelessly (lol like pspgo)

Considering i couldnt give a toss about getting a DSi because it renders 6 of my games unusable, unless this new one has something pretty special im sticking to my ds lite.

Gotta agree on the crap nintendo is churning out on the ds recently, tingles balloon trip of love, pokemon gold/silver, chibi robo these are the good stuff. However for each of those we also have to endure shit like tomodachi collection, err nintendo WTF.

3rd party support however is fantastic once you filter out the 1000 shovelware games & the 1000 me & my pony games. Whats left is a pretty awesome selection of games something there for everyone, the ds is my most favourite games platform this generation.

I do agree to an extent. There comes a point where too much power is overkill and it's going to require larger and larger teams to churn out software. Yet if handhelds do get a spike, it's possible they will leach off existing teams (much like Psp was able to leach off ps2/wii teams but ds was more just GBA programmers moving on). Over all PSP games are pretty damn easy to make and could require a team only 1.5 the size of a DS team. Hell some really nice PSP games have been done on some reasonably small size teams (far far from the large size teams xbox/ps2 games use to require).

Hopefully as the graphics max out on such a small screen, we'll see more focus on gameplay.

Are you just trying to be clever (the official title is a 'DS Game Card', so it's just being a bit anal retentive to not boil that down to 'cart'), or have you just never seen a DS game?

    Thank you mooseblaster.

    GoH - I'd call a DS game 'a cart'. It is a catch-all name.

It sounds like nintendo is done with being the "under powered" console maker like the wii and ds. This could be a return to the super nintendo days when they had the best console graphically on the market. I'm a big fan of handhelds and their pick up and play quality, so bring on the best graphics possible.

Nintendo will stick with 'carts' in on form or another; there'll be none of this silly UMD style spinning disc business going on. I predict that DSiware or 'TSware' will play a bigger part, but actual TS games will be on solid state of some form. Maybe they could go for something with the same formfactor & pinout as current DS games, but more secure internally.

Satoru Iwata has reveled the first official information about the successor to the DS series in a newspaper interview: it's gonna have some sort of motion sensor.

I have no idea how Nintendo are planning to implement a motion sensor in a handheld, but I'm sure the results will be entertaining. Considering the amount off Wiimote carnage that's occured across the world, I can't imagine what will happen with a motion sensetive Gameboy. Bus and Train journeys are about to get a lot more interesting (or dangerous) :icon_toil

More information on this, something called Zelda and the Wii Vitality Sensor over on Joystiq.
