Pretty sweet, let's just pray it's all in good nick otherwise it'll be a long long restoration thread.

Hey, there's nowt wrong with a nice long restoration thread - especially one of Parris' - I learn a ton off most of those threads!Originally Posted by Twimfy
Parris, I'm guessing you're now going to have to build an extension to keep your personal arcade in!
Ha! In this case, the learning curve is equally on the side of the poster as frankly the amount of input from others on these 'refurb & resto' threads from various members is great!
The longest thread for a repair was one that Limey and I were involved in a year or so ago, which tracked the repair of several Playstation 2 Tools owned by various members. It was a great community effort and I think it proved just how useful such threads could be.
A variety of people posted a huge amount of additional information.
I like a thread where those with a little technical knowledge can rub shoulders with people who have either none or lots and everyone just chips in, finds things out or imparts a bit of knowledge.
Lots of people visit on AG regularly have hoards of information that slowly leeks out through long conversations.
So, you'll be glad to know the Manx TT Twin is partially functioning. I spoke to the owner today and its gargantuan - I seriously have a problem with fitting it into the garage as it stands right now as I have 5 units in there. I'm in the middle of trying to sell a Namco Point Blank, which may or may not go for the asking price. I do need it gone though lol
The non functioning bit appears to be yet another monitor. The right hand coins up, can be heard to be working, but nothing on screen. It's either a defective video board or a monitor issue. Easy to establish when it arrives as the LEFT hand unit works. Swap parts and check!

Me too, I've learnt so much from the arcade threads but it seems after Parris' bad luck with the hang on unit I was just hoping this cab turns out perfect.Originally Posted by limey
Doesn't sound too painful, I guess the beauty of a dual cab is that you can use one to test the other.Originally Posted by Parris

The risk you take with older arcade units is really not finding serviceable parts. I don't mind having to do the odd repair, but locating boards etc is a pain.Originally Posted by Twimfy
Exactly, I can swap things around....
I did a trade with a friend last year.
Traded:
Ginga Fukei Densetsu Sapphire
Tyoushin Heiki Zeroigar
Received:
Final Fight Tough
Love Quest
Metal Slader Glory: Director's Cut
Rendering Ranger: R2
Shin Nekketsu Kouha: Kunio-tachi no Banka
I hope that there are some other people here who will appreciate the value of this trade : )

Picked up the Final Fantasy Battle Ultimania for $1 (canadian).
It's all in japanese but very cool to look at, all of the HP/MP stats for the creatures are in english.
Pity they don't make these available in english.
i got this horrible 50inch rear projection tv with the worst picture quality imaginable for free. you can't even watch dvds on the thing! however, now i have to pay money to have it taken to the dump. i thought it would be a good deal at first but i was wrong. :crying:
What's wrong with it? Have you looked into why it looks so bad?Originally Posted by graciano1337
well, the picture is very dark, reds are yellow, there's like theses shadows around everything. there's a couple repair methods i'm going to try but right now it's not looking so good. the thing that bugs me was that i was told it works fine.Originally Posted by Twimfy

Needs new bulbs perhaps? If so burn it.Originally Posted by graciano1337
Hopefully it's something simple, worth spending a bit of time on if you can get it working seeing as it was free.
Can pick up rear projections here in the UK for pennies on ebay now. My brother had a 50" model with a 4:3 screen ratio, awesome for old games and because the screen was so big, forcing DVD's into letterbox still looked bigger than life.
if all means to repair it fail: mod an aquarium into it!

When the doctor asked me, if I heard voices in my head, the voices said "tell him no!"
Picked a neo geo with two controllers that weren't working.
The neo geo just needed a 9v transformer (it was tested with a 5v which wasnt enough on this rev on the board) , and the sticks only needed some cleaning (corrosion occured).
I also picked up a few loose carts for a total of 2000 yen.
Nice, although let me guess Samurai Spirits, Shin Samurai Spirits, Fatal Fury 2 or Fatal Fury Special? :POriginally Posted by Shogeki
A quick google search revealed that a lot of people have experienced the exact same thing. one solution is getting new coolant. i gotta take the back off the tv to see if this is the issue or not.Originally Posted by Twimfy
we did play Melee on it tonight, while the colors were still jacked up, the overall picture wasn't too terrible. it'd be awesome if i could get it back in good condition.
Sweet, keep us informed.Originally Posted by graciano1337
