First off, for playing those older D&D games*and any more old games i decide i want. all DOS. any others i'll just play on the desktop in my room* i'm out searching for atm. Would a old laptop be sufficient enough to play them?*talking old enough to be in the sub 100 dollar range*Like would i run into sound card incompatabilities or such? or is my best bet trying to get a hold of an old IBM?
if the laptop what are some good older units that won't explode or something when i touch them.haha.

Just use dosbox. Even an old pc will have clock issues with games.
dosbox would be fine. if i could ever get it to work properly:banghead:. no matter what i do on both my comps it crashes if i try to start a game. that and the old Originals on original hardware thingOriginally Posted by ASSEMbler
Why would you want an old laptop? Anything "old" enough to play DOS games will have a screen that sucks mightily, strange proprietary hardware, and most likely a dead battery too, forcing you to stay plugged into the wall. And if you're going to stay plugged into the wall, why not just get a desktop?
Personally I just use an old Dell 486/66 desktop to get my DOS on.
a desktop is what i was leaning towards but since there is 2 working ones*vista and win98 respectively* and a bunch of random parts laying everywhere i was hoping to save some space. but best to go with an old desktop eh?
Well I guess it depends on your priorities as far as space etc. But considering that you're 90+% likely to be stuck to the wall anyway, a desktop would probably do just as well. You can even get a KVM switch if you want to cut down on the monitors lying around.
Even if you had an older computer, you'd still probably have to deal with memory allocation issues along with other headaches. DOSBox is still your best bet. If you have any issues PM me and I'll do my best to help you out.
You can also try VirtualBox, and create an DOS hd image. It might work better for you then DosBox does. You might give FreeDos a try, it's a DOS that works with modern hardware, but I don't know how the support for older games is. You can try this also in VirtualBox or make your system dual boot.
