Vogatek Supergun

Does anyone have any experience of these? I was tempted to get one plus a cheap Hyper64 board from eBay for my first home arcade machine

I bought one of these a few weeks back and it seems to do the job nicely (assuming it's hooked up to a JAMMA compatible system :P).

If you haven't already done so, read this recent thread. It talks about the Hyper64 and superguns - amongst other things.

They're often frowned upon, but they do the job.

It is a shame the guy didn't put some money into it and get a few boards printed up at once, etc. It makes it look like a half-arsed bedroom operation, not very professional or organized.

All being well, I could have some rigs for sale soon. Watch this space!

my supergun is a highly modified vogatek. Works like a dream. So far I'ved used it with me neo geo MVS 1-slot, street fighter 2, ketsui, raiden dx

just to let everyone know, got a hyper64 with 3 games delivered last week and used a mark 3 vogatek ... it was great, dug out a couple of megadrive pads and had a 55" arcade machine. Tempted to get a mark 5 so I can use my CDZ pads now, think I've caught the supergun bug :nod:

I advise building your own Supergun. More work but the results will likely be better.

It sits on the board for one - not the best way to have it. It isn't enclosed. You HAVE to use a PC PSU, you don't get a choice. Can be awkward when it comes to custom wiring. Oh, and the guy builds them AFTER you've ordered them and takes up to a month to send out! If he's had so many orders to necessitate several revisions, you'd expect him to save up his profits and be ordering parts in reasonable bulk ahead of time, so they're ready to go.

I just need something simple that'll allow me to play any PCB on my NEC XM37. Which of course can display RGB and component.

Building a supergun is easy. all a supergun does is provide the jamma board with power (in most cases from a PC PSU) and control inputs, and carries the outputs (AV) to a TV and speakers.

See how I built it up from a small PCB with just power and video, then added all the other stuff like joypad ports.

It is fairly straight forward. I only opted for a Vogatek after my power supply blew up and I got fed up of fiddling.

They do the job but they are lacking so many simple things, i'll be building my own again sometime in the future.

The main issue with Vogatek for me is the controls. It isn't really built to support 6 button games or even 4 button.

Making a supergun is very easy. Buy a wired Jamma harness. Buy a PC PSU. Connect the power from the PSU to the Jamma harness. Connect the video output to either an encoder or RGB connector suitable for your needs. Connect the audio output to either speakers or an audio jack connector. Connect the input to buttons or a connector as you see fit. Put all these things in some sort of enclosure. You're pretty much done. It's just a matter of putting things together and the hardest part is making an enclosure to make it look nice. That and I suppose building the controllers might be a bit hard though you could just hack up a console controller for early use.

Well, it would depend on the situation. In this case, he is hijacking a NON SALES thread in order to state that he is selling something that is ON TOPIC in the sales forum. It isn't advertising anything off the site, or trying to hijack someone else's sales thread, plus he contributed to this thread previously, so what's the harm?

Yeah, I just checked - you hijacked a wanted thread where someone had replied. If you want something, create your own wanted thread - don't try to hop the person who asked before you.

Yes, Parris, I really should get onto that! I'm weighing up options on parts. I can get cheap but perhaps not so reliable connectors for example, or I could get some really nice ones, but they're expensive. Like 5 times the price.

Mozilla - quite! As I said, custom wiring can be awkward, especially Jamma+. They're OK if you just wanna play a few JAMMA boards. I guess if you go further than that, any rig is going to need some kind of work, even if only a harness.

I don't think there's a problem. If you were hijacking a for sale or wanted thread, then that's gonna be picked up. You were on topic and basically quietly announced the sale in another thread, so people can go over there and look. ;-)
