    Sega SGX - HSG-0007

I have just been reading about the Saturn SGX which was apparently a a coin operated Saturn system (with a 6 disc multichanger) that was used in Japanese hotels. Same pay to use principal as the Nintendo systems that were used in Japan and later the US.
I was wondering if anybody here had heard of this, knows anything more about it, has used one, or better still ownes one.

The site i was looking at is here for anybody interested.

Yeah, Lawrence is/was a member here, and this has been discussed many years ago... so I guess not everyone will remember.

There's not much to say. I nearly bought it off him a few years back, but it was quite pricey. As you said, it's a coin operated Saturn. Not really much more to it!!

Oh, if you're thinking of getting one, here's something to think about...

    1. They were mostly in Japanese love hotels.
    2. They were mostly used for adult games/VCDs.
    3. If you find one, it will be used.

    Put those factors together ;-)

Well, weren't they behind glass screens ;-) ?
I've heard about these but have never seen one for sale... if I had I would definitely have tried to buy it.

Are you suggesting that the purchase of one of these should be swiftly followed by a some form of sanitation process?

Can i ask what sort of price you were discussing?

Im guessing the answer is not going to deffinative but was there any discussion as to the number of units produced?

It would probably have made it difficult to insert any coins were it behind a screen.

    Yes, disinfecting would be wise!!

Price... in the thousands (US dollars)

I saw one of these in a love hotel once. You can't actually see the hardware, just the pad sicking through a hole in the unit. The money goes in to a slot next to the TV. I don't know if this is how all of them are set up though. Also the one I saw had a Victor controller. I never used it mind you. I had far better things to play with

OK, so you heard it here first! If you get an SGX, make sure to clean it - Yakumo might have tainted it!

I've got one. As new in box. No nasty stains fortunately. Bit big and impractical to use as a regular saturn. Gave it a bash on freeplay when I got it ages back, stuck 6 games in for an afternoon's play.

There were a couple for sale on yahoo 2 years back iirc (maybe 3 years now) one of which found its way to Ebay. Both unboxed but each sold for under $1k or equivalent.

Could you please tell us what version number the bootup screen says, and if it has a SEGA logo in the bottom right if you enter the cd player?

Sadly not. Something I do really want though. Had 2 chances in the last couple of years, but never the funds to hand.
