    Hi Maxou,

Quite an interesting read, this one:

    ----------------------------------------------------------------
    <PAGE #1>

    [HEADLINE]
    What about horror-masterpiece "Biohazard 2"?

    [TEXT TOP-LEFT]
"Biohazard 2", the definitive horror adventure.
How's the development going now the release
has been pushed back till winter? "We're currently
redoing things from scratch to ensure we deliver
something really satisfying. That's pretty much
where all our time's going, so yeah, all we can
really say at the moment is "winter".
    " (Capcom PR)

    [RIGHT SIDE, UPPER SCREEN]
People gathered round the Tokyo Game Show "Bio2" booth.

    [LEFT SIDE, LOWER SCREEN]
More zombies on screen at once make "Bio2" a more
    frightening game than its predecessor.

    [TEXT MIDDLE-RIGHT]
    Polygon-powered Horror

Bet you can't wait to play this at home.

    [BOTTOM RED TEXT]
Can't wait to get a taste of the terror!

    <PAGE 2>

    [SUB-HEADLINE]
So what about the Saturn version?

    [TEXT TOP-LEFT]
Whoa! Now this really took us by surprise - a playable build
of the first game...on the Saturn! It's only around 50% complete,
but the development's moving ahead steadily, and aiming for
a summer release. We'll be counting the days!

    [TEXT BELOW SCREEN]
Here's a shot of the first game on PlayStation. Now bring
    us the Saturn version!

    Hi Torchickens,

I've had a go at translating that Starfy (Stafy?) piece for you. Let me know if it's any good:

    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    <PAGE #1>
    GB Megahit Armageddon

    [HEADER]
    Legend of Starfy

    [TITLE + INTRODUCTORY TEXT]
    Legend of Starfy (Tentative Title)

Crazy hijinks and comical action starring scatterbrained prince Starfy and his
ocean buddies in a quest to recover a lost treasure. What kind of dangers await?

    Action Nintendo

    3800 Yen (excl. tax)
    Game Boy Color

    [RIGHT SIDE, SMALL SCREEN]
Guide Starfy through the perilous ocean

    [CALLOUT]
    Starfy, prince of Tenkai

    [SUB-HEADER]
Scatterbrained prince Starfy needs to get back to his home in the sky!

Tenkai, a place high above the peaceful seas and home to a prince named Starfy.
He tends to be a bit clumsy, and one day accidentally sent a certain jar plummeting
down from his lofty homeland, bringing stormy chaos to both the oceans and Tenkai.
It wasn't just the jar either, Starfy fell into the ocean too, only to be rescued by Lob-jiisan.
To make matters worse, the once peaceful ocean was now overrun with enemies!
Time to get this adventure underway and find out if Starfy will make it back to the
    sky in one piece!

    [RIGHT SIDE, UPPER SCREEN]
Join the action as Starfy floats around under the sea, through caves, and more besides.

    [RIGHT SIDE, LOWER SCREEN]
The villain-infested sea: Screen-sized enemies lie between Starfy's and his path home.

    [BOTTOM RED TEXT]
    A swimmingly-good, marine-based adventure game!

    <PAGE #2>
    Game Boy Mega Hit Armageddon

    [TEXT TOP-RIGHT]
Use the Spin Attack to see your enemies off!

As Starfy journeys through the seas, he meets all sorts of underwater folk. The first of
which is Lob-Jiisan. His new acquaintances use their powers to help him on his undersea
quest. Starfy's not altogether helpless though, and can use his Spin Attack to clear away
    enemies standing in his path.

    [TEXT BELOW TOP SCREEN]
There are pearls dotted around here and there during the adventure. Collecting these
is just another part of the fun.

GAME CHECK POINT (CLOCKWISE FROM TOP)

    [IN-GAME TEXT]
    Lob-Jiisan:
"Now, how am I gonna get
you back to your home in
the sky, you shiny little star?"

    [TEXT RIGHT-SIDE OF LOB-JIISAN]
Lob-Jiisan rescues Starfy at the beginning of the story.

    [TEXT LOWER-LEFT]
    About the Game
Kyororon offers helpful advice to aid you on your adventure!

Starfy's in-game partner, Kyororon, doesn't have any attack moves, so he can't really
help much when enemies turn up. However, all is not lost, as he knows his way around
the oceans better than anyone. Listen to his advice and Starfy won't get lost as he
explores the depths of the ocean and presses on with his quest.

    [RIGHT SIDE, LOWER SCREEN]
Getting Starfy back to Tenkai is a piece of cake for Kyororon... Or is it?

    [TEXT BELOW MIDDLE SCREEN]

Can anyone translate this list? It just lists whats in the picture but i'm interested in whether or not it says or hints whats on the 3.5" disk or the Saturn branded CD-R, which has always been something of a mystery surrounding this insane special edition (they sure as hell don't make them like this anymore!)

I also scanned an interview about the making of the game, it's a bit long but you never know if you don't ask! As a point of interest though Fumito Ueda (ICO creator) worked on this game, dunno if he's mentioned in the interview but if anyones interested in the game he got his start in (i believe it was the first he worked on) then this might have something. I've tried to scan it as best i could, the book has a thick cardboard cover making it a little difficult to push so the edges don't blur.

Thanks! So the 3.5" disk was probably blank, and the Saturn branded disc, who knows? "Sample" is a bit vague, if i sorta squint at the picture in the book i think it says Disc 1, but why include that? Mind you it wouldn't be the oddest thing WARP have included with a game before. I got one more interview question, i've asked a lot the past week and i'm really grateful for your help, i'll try to make this my last request for a while so other people can get a chance! This relates to the canceled M2 system and the canceled version of D2 for it.

    Hi rewak,

Here's the snippet of that D2 piece in English:

    -------------------------------------------------
So, why did D2's development shift to the Dreamcast
after the M2 version was canned?

Iino: Right after development stopped for the M2 version,
all 30 members of the M2 dev team staff started considering
trying to work out what happens next. Should we restart
"D no Shokutaku 2" or not? Should we keep things as they
were for the M2 version, or attempt a radical overhaul?
Most importantly of all though, which hardware should we
develop it on? It was at around that time we started hearing
rumors of a new Sega console.

    -------------------------------------------------

    Cheers!

    Hi pool7,

And here's a translation for your pics:

    -------------------------------------------------
    <Pic #1>
Global energy provider and politically influential
    corporation, "Shinra Company"

"Avalanche" was formed from civilian dissatisfaction
with the Shinra Company, and makes its voice heard
    through acts of terrorism

    <Pic #2>
"Cloud" made contact with Avalanche after
drifting into a certain establishment. On the
promise of a pricey reward, he agreed to
    join a bombing mission.

    The objective:
    The Shinra Power Generator, Makouro

When referring to 'Starfy' and 'Stafy', Stafy is an official Japanese romanization of スタフィー (Sutafī) - which appears in the games (e.g. Legendary Starfy 2's Wrestler Clothes (レスラーのふく), and Baseball Cap (やきゅうキャップ) costumes, as well as other media such as the 'Legend of Stafy' poster in Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga.

'Starfy' is a registered trademark for English speakers that was used when Densetsu no Stafy Daīru Kaizokudan was announced and released overseas as The Legendary Starfy. Prior to the release of The Legendary Starfy some people referred to Sutafi as 'Stafy' or 'Stafi', which might add to confusion about how the name is pronounced.

I personally believe 'Stafy' and 'Starfy' are interchangable, and that 'staff-ee' is a misnomer.

In Japanese commercials associated with the series, including one commercial for Legendary Stafy 2, スタフィー (Sutafī) is pronounced as if there was already an emphasis on the 'ar'. This makes me feel that Stafy and Starfy are interchangeable, but 'Starfy' is the official way to pronounce it. See also: this video from Nintendo Space World 2000. We can see that スタフィー was always pronounced like 'Starfy' from early in the games development. I don't think that this is a coincidence, given the word 'Stafy' is used in the URL of Nintendo's Space World 2000 page.

I feel that a similar issue applies to Kirby. Some might pronounce Kābī as 'Car-bee', but in a Japanese Kirby's Dream Land (星のカービィ 夢の泉の物語) commercial, he is pronounced like 'Kerr-bee'. A Game Informer interview revealed that the name Kirby was actually chosen because Miyamoto thought it would be funny if a cute character had a harsh sounding name like Kirby.

I was under the impression that "おっちょこちょい" was referring more on the lines of a 'careless' or 'clumsy' prince, given that Starfy drops the Jar (which encloses Ogura) at the beginning of the game.

But I think your translation is fantastic. Thanks again

    Hi Torchickens,

Thanks very much for the feedback, and the kind words about my translation. I see what you mean regarding "Stafy" and "Starfy" being largely interchangeable, but I just stuck to the one I felt sounded preferable.

Regarding "おっちょこちょい" though, I've come across this word a couple of times in the past when doing translation work and decided to go in a slightly different direction with this piece, rather than the bog-standard "clumsy". Based on the context though, I can see how the latter would probably work better though...

    Cheers!

    Hi Maxou,

Here's a quick and literal translation of the piece you posted:

    -------------------------------------------------
    "Which-one-should-I-try events" and
    their influence on future actions

In order to fully understand pages 48 and 49,
each storyboard is drawn in a specific way.
It's the same for this "live-selection" storyboard
too. The style differs slightly from that used
in the normal events and demos. Because
a fixed time of six seconds is allotted for
live-selection choices, how this time is spent
must also be documented. In the storyboards
shown here, a two-second period elapsed after
    each cut.
    -------------------------------------------------

    Cheers!

    Hi Maxou,

Here are some down-and-dirty translations for the two pics you posted a short while ago:

    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    <Pic #1>
While programmers play a crucial role in the optimisation, streamlining and compiling of data that help products take shape, "software" programmers at Capcom don't rely on their technical expertise alone, but provide active input for the contents of the games too. We'll be hearing about the game's system from several programmers who worked in a more assistant-directorial role.
"It all started with discussions to simply carry over the system we had prior to "2". However, it didn't take long before we realised that this would limit what we could achieve and wasn't what we really wanted. Prompted by this, we implemented a revamped system which lead to something quite different for "2"".
"At first, I didn't really think the action element needed to be powered-up to be honest. Sure, I figured it should play a part here and there, but it wasn't really catered for in the system at that time. Anyway, we played around with it and arrived at something we were happy with and so implemented it. At first it was kind of critical and sometimes random though. The original concept was to make this gaming element closer to that of "1". Not the story..."

    <Pic #2>
    Umbrella Mercenaries

This scenario centres around Umbrella dispatching a team of mercenaries to Raccoon City to engage in field reconnaissance and the rescue of survivors.
Unlike the hidden "4th Survivor" scenario in "2" starring Hunk, the "twist", if you can call it that, for this one revolved around being only lightly equipped, making you all too prone to being infected by the virus.
    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The end of the first page stops rather abruptly, so I can't be sure what the speaker's actual point is I'm afraid, or whether "Not the story..." is in fact an accurate translation of the upcoming sentence.

Oh, and, I have to ask... What are you gathering all these translations for?!

You would make things easier if you provided flat scans or high res pictures. The images are blurry and characters are hard to identify.
