Its a shame none of the launch titles interest me or I'd probably buy one as soon as possible.

Well now, this is a nice surprise, lower than all of us naysayers said! There's nothing there yet that would make me forego my DS order, although I remain interested in seeing how well the Vampire Chronicle and Dynasty Warriors are pulled off.

No Death Jr. for Japan though? I wonder if it will be a strictly US-only release?

    I also feel that way.
I'm also not that crazy about the size of the unit...reminds me too much of an Atari Lynx.

It's like a cm longer then the original GBA. It's just that freaking awesome screen makes it look Nomad/Lynx/GG size. It's pretty amazing considering everything that's packed in there(UMD drive, that screen etc).

    PSP dimensions
    length - 170 mm
    width - 74 mm
    height - 23 mm

    And just for comparison,

    DS dimensions
    length - 148.7 mm
    width - 84.7 mm
    height - 28.9 mm

With those prices you can already see Sony's stock price plummet with such an obvious Price-vs-Cost differential.

I've read that the battery life will be 4 to 6 hours when playing games and 4 to 5 hours when watching a movie.

From what I heard, the difference in battery life is greater between playing games and watching movies... which kind of makes sense as the disc has to spin constantly. I wonder what the battery life is for playing music... I sure hope it'll be a lot better as music can be played from the Memory Stick (a solid-state device), I hope you can turn off the screen backlight (or the screen altogether) when playing music, a feature which is lacking on the GP32 (but then, its battery life is better)

BTW: Hi Joen, nice to see you posting again :-)
Are you the one that plunders the game section at the "Used Goods" store at the Hooigracht? ;-)

Nintendo is absolutely shagged with this aggressive price by Sony, there is just no way the DS cab manage to have the same sort of success on it's pitifully old technology, I will buy a DS for mario 64 but I'm gonna buy myself a shiny new psp for xmas now that Sony has announced this amazing price point.Nintendo must be absolutely in a state of panic tonight.

really good prices, now if only there was an UMD writer out there for the consumers... (so we could have emulators on the PSP... would mind playing some nifty megadrive on it)

This was posted on another board by me in response to another board member.I have to clrify my position on this situation I think.

    Board Member:
Seeing as you are Nintendo mad, Nintendomad you should remember the Gameboy vs Lynx/Game Gear.

Two of those machines were vastly superior technically.

    END>

    Nintendomad aka da man:

Yes but unfortunately we don't live in an age where Nintendo was almost synoymous with the word videogame, now the Playstation brand rules the roost and that's just life. I am still a huge fan of Nintendo but recently their business model is shit, they seem to make blooper after blooper , the whole online fiasco really pissed me off with the gamecube and so did the lack of truly great first party software from them in recent years for both their handheld's and home system's.

I hope they do continue in the industry as I love Ninty games but it does seem as they they are now making vast numbers of errors and misjudgements just like Sega did against a very powerful brand.(The Playstation.)

well, im very impresed by the price, and i'm more and more intersted in it. but i don't think nintendo will have the kick-to-the-*ss of their lives (like when the psx arrived in the scene) . sure , they will loose points , but if they change as much as they look to, they will be able to do a great war.

the only tittles that really interest me are : Metal gear Acid (but.... its not made by kojima.) , Puyo Puyo Fever and Dinasty warrior ( but it will be the same as dynasty warrior 2 . dynasty warrior 3 , dynasty warrior 3 X-treme legends, dynasty warrior 4, dynasty warrior 4 X-treme legends, Dynasty warrior 4: Generals, And the other one (don't remember the tittle).... that's kinda repetitive)
"(...)A One World Government and one-unit monetary system, under permanent non-elected hereditary oligarchists who self-select from among their numbers in the form of a feudal system as it was in the Middle Ages. In this One World entity, population will be limited by restrictions on the number of children per family, diseases, wars, famines, until 1 billion people who are useful to the ruling class, in areas which will be strictly and clearly defined, remain as the total world population." Dont let media feed you with lies. open your eyes and search information yourself.
