Borman, when Killercabs was up, there WAS a website for arcade techy stuff ;-) Ahh, maybe one day I might do something like that - I had toyed with the idea once they went.

Retro, a few of the members of KC ended up setting up another site, which is less active sadly, but does have a few key members who are clearly in the business and impart a lot of knowledge.

I love the fact that there is an arcade section on Assembler, however one thing that does puzzle me greatly is the lack of arcade development information here. Many of our favorite arcade titles deserve some serious respect prior to them ending up on console. :nod:

Yeah, I'm aware of the forum, but I wouldn't call it a site. It redirects directly to the forum. KC had the whole front end with tech guides and what have you that weren't part of the forum. I'm talking about something that removes the need to hunt around forums, wading through posts or asking for info that's been given hundreds of times before. ;-)

I am registered over there. I dunno, it just doesn't feel the same, so I don't really frequent it.

Incidentally whilst the subject is up, why is there not much arcade dev traffic on Assembler? I thought it would be a hot topic as the hardware and subsequent material must be really interesting, no?

Well, that's the intention of the section, of course, but arcade dev gear is really rare. Not a whole lot of people know a lot about it. And of course, if you DO make a game, you can't just burn it to a ROM... unless you sacrifice a board, you're going to have to design your own complete boardset. Nightmare!

As for the "where else is there?" that's what I meant. After KC went, I considered making a site with info etc. It was just finding the time to do so. Then that forum came up, and I thought well, that's enough, probably. I don't really want to tread on their toes - they've got their own community going. I think I might at least put up a section on such stuff as "superguns" (hate that word lol), harnesses for other boards etc. That way, I can leave it at that, and it's just some info that's there if people choose to use it, but I can work on it and expand if necessary.

Well, I've got no problem with hosting, coding and getting a domain name myself. In fact, I'm looking into the possibility of a very interesting domain name. So in my case, there's nothing I need from anyone else.

The problem for me is time. Whilst I am currently unable to work, I am trying to sort out my finances and such so my time is still limited. Once I get myself straightened out, I would love to action the plans that I intended to do years ago. The main thing stopping me was actually several sites with good info. These have now gone - time for another! ;-)

He took me to a major data centre in London where he has several racks. Really stunning. In fact, that company operate one of the largest Internet backbones and as you are currently in the US, the chances are you are using their network to be online. They resell to most ISPs.



Who would have thought such an ordinary looking building could hold such vital hardware? It is scary to think how much money is in one of those places in terms of equipment, connection costs etc.

As for domain names, I have some I could use, too, but aren't so relevant. I could host it on my GameConsoleGuide domain, but that would be confusing and silly. Still, domains are cheap, if you can still find a decent one! ;-) hehe.

Steal me a few servers :P But yeah, a quick brainstorm lead to no awesome arcade domains. The one I have currently is Project Terzo, half "Hey, its my third real project", half "Hey, the Stargate SG-1 movie's codename is Project Terzo" haha

Well, like I said, I'd make a site mostly with guides for building superguns and harnesses. The supergun is, of course, JAMMA. The harnesses would be stuff like MVS to JAMMA. And perhaps you could have guides on restoration of cabinets and such. Most of them would be JAMMA.

So, it seems to me what is needed is a domain name that suggests that it is a guide to everything JAMMA-related.

Oh, by the way, I now own jammaguide.com ;-)
