Does that include emulation? Right now I'm downloading the whole SNES rom set from EMU-Russia because I'm super bored.:lol:Originally Posted by Drew

I wonder what I'd need to do to avoid having a fight with you. You always were able to find criticism where there was none.Originally Posted by Alien Workshop
There are exclusives on 360 and PS3, but who still makes A-list blockbuster exclusives for the PC?Originally Posted by Mr. Casual
Don't get me wrong, there are plenty of indy games that are great on the PC, and I appreciate a lot of FPS/RTS games work best there (these being games I don't have much interest in anyway, typically), but apart from MMOs there really don't seem to be many exclusives, certainly not enough for me to justify the expenditure.
I didn't get a PC for its exclusives, I just got one for reasons I've already stated, such as better FPS rates, graphics, etc etc etc.
I think the console versions of Far Cry 2 had to have all sorts of stuff cut out just to be playable on them, just like the Xbox Far Cry game. And as for Crysis, its not the best game in the world, but it will probably never see the light of day on a console, and if it was on a console, it wouldn't be nearly as good, because Crysis mainly was a graphics display kind of game.
I can't think of many A-list blockbuster games right now that aren't already on all consoles, but let me just say this. The console version of TF2 pales in comparison to the PC version in every single way. Its just so much funner and easier to find a game on the PC version, plus, you dont pay for updates and it doesn't require an online service that costs any money. Steam is free once you get the game, so that doesn't really count.
I'm not trying to start a fight, it just seems like everythings on everything now, and the PC version of whatever it is is usually the best. About the only difference I see is where you sit in relation to your monitor or TV and the controller you use. I can see why someone would want to play it that way, though. But with a PC, its just easier to make it a home entertainment system. 360 has virtual console and all, but with a gaming PC hooked up to a plasma monitor, you could play your own ROMs on there easier, because downloading crap and putting it on a 360 is a hassle. Certain things on 360 are more of a hassle to do on PCs and certain things on PCs are more of a hassle to do on consoles, but I generally think the PC has less hassles, unless your computer, like crashes a lot.

Every single FPS is better on PC. But most FPS games on PC push the limits of the computer, so you're always waiting for the next video card, cpu + mainboard, ...
Because of this, consoles have a better cost / benefit. Plus some games are console exclusives, like Killzone 2.

Look, I was taking this in a very lighthearted way until now. I think it started when YOU said this:Originally Posted by Alchy

Then I corrected you by simply pointing out that given the context I used it in, it made perfect sense, still in a very lighthearted way. Then you were the one getting pissy and I was just wondering why the f*ck you were, now this.
First of all, nothing pisses me off more than someone who I've never met acting like they know me on a personal level. You don't. I don't claim to know you or any other f*ckshow on this site or any other unless I've actually met them and have known them for a long time (the only one here being Mr. Casual). Second, stop getting pissy when you are the one that clearly "invited" this whole thing on. You made the objection, I defended my stance... if you "know me so well", then what the f*ck were you expecting to happen? Third, what the hell have I done to you or any other member on this site in the past year to get this "how can I avoid a fight with you" nonsense. Damn, I thought I was being effing calm, but I guess I wasn't. Is "pissed off" the only way I can get my point across? Shit.
Whatever, I'm done. You can take it or leave it how it is, I'm done.

why not sc4? it's wonderful and there are plenty of mods...

There's some gameplay choices in Sim City 4 that are a bit "meh". There seemed to be more to do and balance for some reason in 3K, plus the fact that my system can run 3K w/o a hitch, whereas 4's requirements are higher and I ve only got 1.25GB of RAM and 128MB VRAM:POriginally Posted by karsten

I don't even know where to begin with any of that, so I'll just leave it be and let you smoulder away in the corner.Originally Posted by Alien Workshop
Games that have been designed for a console will work better for a console, and vice versa. A good example is Halo - the PC port doesn't feel right at all. In general I'd say PC ports of console-centric games don't fare to well. The opposite is also true, of course.Originally Posted by Johnny
The day I have to regularly locate, download and install drivers for my consoles, or upgrade the hardware on a six-monthly basis, I'll agree. In terms of playing games, consoles are clearly less hassle.Originally Posted by Mr. Casual

I agree with you, but even some console games work better on PC.Originally Posted by Alchy
Grand Theft Auto 3, Vice City and San Andreas are a good example. It's better on the PC than on PS2 / Xbox.
Anyway, some games really take advantage of the keyboard + mouse combination. Plus they can be modded. Just imagine Half-Life and Half-Life 2 withouth mods.
But again, some games work better on consoles. 2D / 3D Fighters, RPGs,...

6 month basis? Thats an exxageration, you're just cherry picking on that one, because MOST PC games (new and old) that have been coming out can work fine on even really old video cards, the game's you are talking about, like Crysis, come along maybe once or so a year, Crysis was a special game when it came to its requirements.Originally Posted by Alchy
An example of a recent PC game that can run well even on an old video card and still looks really good would be Left 4 Dead.
I can't think of many hassles on PC gaming. I mean bitching about drivers is just stupid, it takes like 5 minutes to update a driver. Thats like saying any current gen console game with patches is a hassle. I think a bigger hassle is having a game lock up or freeze or RROD on you while you're playing a game but thats just me. I've seen people bitching about Fallout 3 crashing a lot before, but most of them pirated their copy or don't have like 4 gigs of Ram. 4 gigs of Ram BTW is pretty inexpensive, I think a Spare 360 controller or two cost as much as my whole Ram set.
The point is I don't have to worry about any drivers at all. I don't have to worry about x64 vs x86 compatibility issues, nor decide whether to pay for an upgrade to Vista to get DX10 functionality. I don't have to dig through endless reams of reviews to find out which graphics card performs the best on a price/performance ratio within my budget range. I don't have to troubleshoot hardware failure when it occurs - I just send it back and get a new one (hasn't happened yet, touch wood). I don't have to haul it out and add more RAM to it in order to get an acceptable framerate/stability on new games.Originally Posted by Mr. Casual
There are plenty of plus points to the PC as a gaming platform. Ease of use and ease of maintenance are not among them.
what? how much is 4GB or RAM?! less than 50 Euros?

If we're talking DDR2, yeah. Even quality RAM like Mushkin, OCZ, G.Skill, Kingston, and Crucial can be bought in the $50 range.Originally Posted by Barc0de

Latest (as in only a month or so old) sales figures are in. Sony sold (actually sold, not just shipped) 21.3M PS3 units over it's lifetime in all territories. X360 unit sales to the same period were 28M across all territories. Not as far apart as I thought they might be.
