My thermobox 360 is dead

The moment I had been expecting (yet not pleasantly) has finally come. My 360 red-ringed and I m waiting for my coffin.

I hope microsoft deal with it promptly and give me a real lasting console (refurbished 360s are zombie 360s anyway, they ll go belly-up at some point anyway) - but I was told that they usually just change (I hope he didn't meen fix or modify) the motherboard for first timer 360s. It would be a shame for a purchaser who wants to buy about five 360 games this XMAS not to purchase a single one.

It's a first that I have to buy the same console twice, because despite the warranty and replacement program, the issue of the console will remain regardless and the next time I won't have any warranty and will be forced to buy a console again.

Hope I don't jinx yours (!) but I've got one on the way back to me right now. My original one died (error E74) on Oct 14th, after two weeks it came back to me with a new motherboard but never worked - it just continuously reset itself.

Now I've apparently just been shipped a new box, but I'm not too hopeful...the manufacturing date is middle of this year though, so maybe the newer boxes are more resilient?

Welcome to the club.

If you have an older unit, they retrofit the old Xenon CPU with a Falcon, but still no HDMI. All the systems you get back are refurbs. Back when the old 360 was dying constantly, a lot of the repair units just plain sucked, mine lasted less then a month, but the old Xenon I got back and sold to a friend for an Elite has been working for over a year now.

all early 360s will die at some point, it's their fate and I came to terms with it a long time ago, that's why I m not really surprised, just disappointed.

Why can't they make one that won't go tits up? Why can't they just slap a load of cooling devices on the consoles? Wouldn't that solve the problems?

The 360 problem is the design ...

I have 2 launch x360 and no problems but I know that soon or later it would die

Already pretty full with stuff as it is. I guess a couple of small fans might help but im not sure. I had a launch console and when i sent it in i got one of these mobos back. Then i hacked it to bits made a few holes here and there covered the heatsinks to make the fan blow some more hot air out.

The problem is that Microsoft hired a company which made the X360 component box (because basically its a box, with an external case to make it less uglier) with b series materials. I hope mine lasts until Death Smiles release.

I just sent in one of my 360s a couple weeks ago and when I got a system back I looked at the manufacturing date and it was a brand new console not even 3 months old.

being in Europe and especially in Greece for that matter, I expect the highest level of bad service and naturally the worst-case scenario replacement. My hopes are pretty low with regard to my unit-to-come and I m certain it won't rest gloriously next to my other consoles in the future.

No issue with my 2nd at all. I keep mine upright and it gets plenty of air. It also is alot cooler upright than it is on it's side. The only time it red ringed was twice during a storm.

First 360 Red Ringed 15 Minutes into owning it then 6 months later......it did it for the final time.

Have you guys seen the replacement Xbox 360 case from Lian-Li?

It's a little on the extreme side, but I don't think there could be any overheating problems with this beast. Check the Specification section for bigger pics.
