Pc help needed...

I need some help guys, one of you might know how to fix this, so this is the problem. I had vista installed on my pc and i shared my files with my mac laptop, I had never done it before so i don't know what i did, but long story short i had no access to my files from either windows or mac, i sort of fixed this and i had access to them with my administrator account. After all was said and done i decided to downgrade to XP and all the files i had had problems with were on a separe partition, so now im on XP and most files are available, but a few i can't access.... I'm guession because they can only be accessed by the other administrator which no longer exists? How can i get access to these files?:pray:

So let me get this straight. You downgraded from Vista to XP, and now some of your files won't open? What happens when you try to open them?

They won't open because when i shared my D drive with my mac (I use D partition for files and c:\ for windows/programs) I did something weird that basicaly changed permitions on all the files and after that i couldn't even open them on my vista machine, then i manually changed permitions to allow me (admin, only user on the machine) to read/write, but I guess i didn't allow everyone to read/write so now I can't access them. I formated and reinstalled XP so the original user that had access to the files doesn't exists anymore...

Do you get an access denied error?

If so, try KUBUNTU live CD. I know with Ubuntu it won't let you access files in user folders in ntfs...

it depends:

- Pictures just say there's no preview available
- nfo files (hihihihi) say i don't have access
- Iso files (h0h0h0h0h0) Say there was an error opening when trying to open with winrar(muahahahaha).

Is that just going to let me access them or also change permitions? The drive is ntsf btw.

access them so that you can copy and paste them into a drive that has no restrictions.

Try changing the owner of the folder or files. Once the admin account of your XP installation is the owner, you can change permissions to whatever you like.

To change the owner (for XP Pro):

• Make sure you are logged in as local admin (domain admin should work, too)
• Open properties of a folder whose owner you want to change
• On the Security tab, click Advanced
• In the new window, choose the Owner tab
• Select the new owner, choose to apply changes to nested folders and files, then click Apply

If you are logged in as admin, this should work regardless of the current security settings on the files. After its done, you can set new file permissions (e.g. to allow anyone full access).

I'd say Try what SilverBull said as thats sounds like you problem as its happened to me a few times after a re-install of xp or whatever.

You may need to turn simple file sharing off to try silverbulls suggestion, you would need to goto Tools, folder options then view and scroll down to the bottom and turn simple file sharing off.
