Microsoft: IE is out, Firefox 3 is in!

Microsoft is going to stop development on Internet Explorer 8 and are going to be switching their focus to making Firefox better (not sure if that's a good thing or a bad thing).

Even Steve Ballmer is switching: “I’m going to be downloading it myself, and I’ve told all our employees to download Firefox 3 on Tuesday and instructed our programming teams to start working on making the open source browser better rather than stumble around with Internet Explorer 8,” said Ballmer. “I mean, why bother? Firefox 3 has the ‘AwesomeBar,’ you can’t seriously expect to compete with that, can you?”

Is anyone else suprised? I for one, am glad they decided to switch, the only time I use IE is to download Firefox.:yatta:

Parts of this make me think it isn't real.

Such as, the "AwesomeBar" references. And then a programmer stating that IE8 "fucking sucks".

That sounds horrible, that MS will try to get their slimy hands on Firefox.

You guys think one of the biggest companies in the world is going to give up on a product that made them "THE" software company. This has to be a hoax, no way around it.

Has to be a hoax, check out the other crap on that website. People using catapults to get to work instead of cars....

The comment about salvaging Vista proves that this is fake. Regardless of reality, no corporate executive would make a statement like that about a currently shipping product.

Called "the world's greatest tech humour site" by The Register, BBspot creates entertainment for the geekier side of the world. BBspot produces a variety of features like fake news stories satirizing the tech and political worlds, the BBspot Mailbag which pokes fun at the Believers (people who believe our fake news) and much more. BBspot was started by Brian Briggs in April of 2000 as a hobby to bring some fun to the web, but grew to the point where Brian "quit his day job" and made the site his full-time occupation in January of 2003.
