    Modern sci-fi tank games?

    Hi,

I just read the Stellar 7 article in the latest RetroGamer issue. The VGA 256-color Stellar 7 CD-ROM remake by Dynamix was a game I owned and really loved back in the early '90s, so I thought it was an interesting read!

I was just wondering, were there any similairly themed games released the last few years on modern platforms? If so, I sure missed them.

It seems to me it is not a popular theme anymore. The last similair game that comes to mind was a hover tank game that was released on the Atari Jaguar. I have never played it myself or even seen it, but a quick search on AtariAge reveals it was called Hover Strike. An up-to-date version of that game could be awesome :)

Atari obviously invented the genre, with its BattleZone. Strange they never seem to really have tried to revive that franchise.

    Best regards,
    ArcadeAction

that is a decent game and its sort similer to what you are looking for although its 3rd person and not first. Its great fun multiplayer (or it was back when it came out)

Hi thanks for the replies... Battle Tanx look like a fun game :) Too bad I do not have access to a N64 yet, but I'll remember the title.

Also I've never heard of Desert Tank before, so I googled a bit and found a little bit of background information. I will definitely check it out.

    Thanks :)

Getting project64 and the ROM should be easier than getting DT and a good model2 emu.

Alien Front Online is the most recent example of this type of game that I can think of. It was better with multiplayer features than it was as a solo game.

I only recently became aware that Activision did seriously try to revive the BattleZone-franchise with two PC titles (BattleZone en BattleZone II) a few years ago, although as far as I understand it became more RTS-style than an arcade shooter. Bummer I was not in the PC gaming scene when the titles were released.

For the time being I have fun with the XBox Live BattleZone update. A quirky little game, but in my eyes still quite cool (but nothing special).

Battlezone 2 was pretty good, give it a try if you can find it.
