    Help with new cordless phone

I got one of those DECT 6.0 phones to replace my 2.4Ghz which caused a lot of interference with my Wifi.

The thing is that the DECT sucks, the signal cant take a few walls without losing strenght, to the point that is completely gone if I am a couple rooms away.

So I was thinking in getting one of those 5.8Ghz handsets, are they better than the DECT? do they have any issues with wifi? are they as powerful as 2.4Ghz phones are?

They won't have issues with wi-fi so long as you don't use A or pre-N, even then you shouldn't have an issue as they are 5GHz.
no idea on any of your other issues though

I'm on b/g, the draft-n has some issues I heard.

And my other issue is signal strenght, since the DECT crapped out after less than 20 meters (and the box says 300 meters, yeah right...).

Ironically, the failure of DECT as a data protocol became a strength when DECT 6.0 phones finally appeared in the U.S. in late 2000. By this time, the ISM bands had become crowded in the U.S., especially the 2.4 GHz band which is used by both the most common variants of Wi-Fi, 802.11b and 802.11g, and many cordless phones; thus interference between unlicensed devices has become common in these bands. However, since Wi-Fi does not operate in the UPCS band and DECT devices negotiate with each other for the available spectrum, DECT 6.0 phones are immune from this type of interference.

The DECT doesnt haves any issues with Wifi, is just that the signal wears out after very little distance.

the answer to your question is: get DECT 6.0 compliant .

That said, lower frequencies travel over greater distance from what I can recall from school.

I just got a Phillips DECT 6.0 and it doesnt works. Granted, the higher the frequency the more susceptible it is to be blocked by obstacles such as walls, but then they shouldnt say it good for 300 meters when IRL it barely reachs 20.

Anyway, I just found a cordless 5.8Ghz from GE. I only have experience with Panasonic and Uniden phones, does anyone knows, if GE phones are good?

You should be fine. I'd take the DECT6 'phone back and try to swap it for another model though. It should cover the entire house without a problem.

We have a GE 'phone. They are good, but it's just a telephone. Nothing to write home about, but I can't think of any telephones that are. I personally don't want the BS color screens and true music ring tones that they try to add a price tag to. I have a Blackberry that does all that and more. IMO a house phone should be simple and well made and not need replacing very often. Also you'll have plenty of luck finding replacement batteries in the future, since most stores sell GE branded ones in my experience.

If it comes down to price, a 5.4 GE would do fine.

If you have a BJ's card, they sell a Panasonic 3x cordless 5.4 'phone set that I have bought on someone's behalf recently and they are very nice. I think they're about $65.

A Blackberry Curve. Nice cellphone, but it gets dust under the screen. Very annoying.

I've a 8800, cool gadget, almost bulletproof since after countless falls it doesnt have a scratch on it.

I was thinking about the iPhone, but I get the feeling that after the novelty wears out is not going to be as useful as my Blackberry is.

Plus I got mine for free, while for the iPhone I had to pay 600 still-money-even-if-markets-say-otherwise plus fees.
