So who Got Ikaruga HD today?

Your Favorite Pretentious asshole is back with some quick thoughts on Ikaruga HD.

I'm impressed it's almost as if Treasure knew the people buying it were going to be people who already owned it and made a special edition of it.

    A few new features:

    Picking your ship
    1cc mode
    Online play.
    the Story has been translated

BUT they did take something out....that uberly cool mode select screen is gone.

    Still I'm impressed.

I downloaded it today and must say its amazing. I was very suprised and happy the translated all of the story including those warning screens and stage description. Though I don't don't know if it has to be unlocked, but I didn't see appendix mode.

It sure is. Except they took out the option to play it vertical like a side scroller shooter ie thunder force style. Instead you can flip it horizontal either right or left.

Ah ok, well, nothing extremely new so far.

What about the graphics? I would expect some very high resoluted textures? :)

Does it look really better than the Dreamcast version?

Wish I had a VGA box to compare...

Played the demo, still such a great shooter  Do I really want to own the same game twice?

It looks EXACTLY like the Dreamcast Version. Which really is saying alot because it was one of the Dreamcast's best looking games.

GaijinPunch is confused. You mean make the screen orientation vertical and leave the controller orientation horizontal? Most games don't have that...it's generally a pretty cheesy feature, although fun for a few minutes I suppose.

The 9.0 IGN Review is sparking debate at shmups. Some pure hilarity in here if you're yearning for some internet drama:

Eh I've caused more amusing ruckuses with my nonsensical anxiety fueled rantings here.

I own it 5 times over and I think it's one of the most overrated games ever.

one of the best overrated games ever but overrated none the less.

If I could afford to be buying games right now I'd probably get it, but I have the XBLive version of Triggerheart Exelica to keep me busy :)

If it looks exactly like the Dreamcast game then why are 360 owners creaming over it? HD? If it looks just the same as the dreamcast then that can't be HD can it? Unless you mean it looks like the DC version through VGA but even then it's not really top quality HD.

nah, it looks much sharper and cleaner, definitely an improvement over dreamcast(vga).
I mean razor sharp hd quality(no artifacts whatsoever).
unless you are playing your 360 on sd ^_~ which I'd doubt.
already beat game on 2nd try(but I've been playing it since 2002 so no surprise there heh).
even though I had it on ngc and dreamcast for years, I have purchased it because it's only $10 and looks even better compared to its previous releases.
fantastic title not to be missed!

I got the Gamecube version of Ikaruga a long time ago. I can't beat it for the life of me, I just plain gave up on the 4th mission, and I normally don't do that on many games. Shmups always always get the better of me.

I own the Dreamcast version as well as the GC version...is it worth it to get the 360 version as well? I don't think so as I don't have an HD tv...plus my DC is connected to my tate tv.
