    Makaimura

I'm starting this thread to discuss the excellent Makaimura series from capcom and all of it's spin offs.

Firstly say whether you like the game's or not and why, then name your favourite in the series and what you love about it.

I love the makaimura series, they are what arcade gaming is all about, hard , challenging, great music, great graphics, funny etc....The artwork Capcom uses for these titles is also stunning, especially the Chomakaimura box for the Super Famicom.

My fave game of the series has to be Chomakaimura simply beacause the gameplay is superb, the addition of the double jump greatly adding depth to the game.Graphics were beautiful, and like works of art.It was ultra challenging, and was just a general thrill to play from start to finish.

Maximo, the spirtual successor to the series on PS2 is ok but it still lacks the finesse of the 2d titles and I think Capcom should do another Makaimura title in 2d with Street Fighter 3 type animation. What do you guys think about the next makaimura titles??

Ghost and goblins on the nes was really really hard :smt009
Maximo on the ps2 is one of my favorite games on the system it's a good step from 2D to 3D without losing the feeling of the original.

The series is untouchable - next to Final Fight, it holds up still as the best games ever made. Gothic, funny, evil in more ways than one, and action packed, these games where incredible. The variety of landscapes, bad guys and especially the amazing boss battles make it worthy of heavy play even today.

Its a shame they didn't build on it further (I mean in 2D). Being heavily into neo geo (have always been), this is a game that I'd have loved to have made it onto neo geo home cart.
The 2 games I've been lusting over for a while now are nazomakaimura and makaimura for wonderswan.
I love topics like this one.

I don't know if you guys actually know this, but maximo started out as a nintendo 64 title and was complete in the dev cycle of the n64, only to be pulled because the N64 was obviously dying and it wouldn't sell well. There are proto's bearing the title makaimura 64 and it was to be shown at TGS but it was held back and then ported to the Dreamcast.Again work got fairly far into this version too and the name had changed from makaimura 64 to maximo, but then the DC died and then it was ported over to the PS2. Gamespot goes over this very briefly in it's video review of the game but it was other websites and magazines that went in depth about the games development.

All through the games dev cycle it retained many of the orignal texture work and low polygon models, in fact you can tell stuff that was obviously intended for N64 still in there, like the flat wall textures in the graveyard, and the low poly models and the use of fogging throughout.Likewise the upgrade character models made for the DC don't look to have had anything added to them in that they were fairly low poly and did not make any use of the new ps2 features that were available to them.It also has a clean DC look to it unlike most ps2 titles.

I just thought I would add this to the thread as the game certainly went through an intresting dev cycle.I would love to get my hand on the proto Makaimura 64 cart.

The best collection of Makaimura games has got to be Capcom Generations 2 for Saturn. That features the Arcade versions of Ghost'n Goblins and Ghouls'n Ghosts plus the SFC version of Super Ghouls'n Ghosts minus that annoying slowdown.

Personally, I have never played these games, but not for lack of interest. I have been wanting to try them out for a while. How many games are in the series, and what order are they in?

    -Red Ariima 2 (Famicom jp.)
    -Makaimura Gaiden (Gameboy jap.)
-Demons Blazon/Makaimura Monshouhen (Super Famicom jp.)

the only one missing is the x68k daimakaimura:/
oke, maximo 2 too, but i was such disappointed from the first part, that i desided, to not buy anymore sequels of it :(

my favorite of the serie is daimakaimura (AC), followed from makaimura (AC) and chômakaimura (SFC).
from the makaimura-gaiden serie i like Demons Blazon (SFC) most, followed from Red Ariima II (FC) and Red Ariima (GB).

Also funny is NazoMakaimura which you have to bild up from a library of parts a huge working machines to complete the stage, in old incredible machines style. the goal is always to help arthur or asutaroto out of a awkward position.

Okay, what's Chomakaimura and Demons Blazon?

I've always been a fan of the series, despite only owning one of the games (Super Ghouls & Ghosts on GBA) because of their creepy visuals, great music, and FUCKINGHARDTHROWYOURNEWGBASPAGAGAINSTTHEWALLANDKIC KTHEDOG difficulty. Classic arcade gaming at its best.

Having recently purchased a SuperGrafx console (waiting now for it to arrive...), I'm thinking of trying to scoop up Daimakaimura on the cheap somewhere (most likely eBay.) Is the game worth getting at all?

Depends on how hardcore of a fan you are. Usually the game fetches $50+ I personally think its the best game on the console despite being better in the actual arcade. If you need to own a SG game get it cuz the other games suck.

Chomakaimura is Super Ghouls and Ghosts, it's the jap name for it.
The jap Gba release is known as Chomakaimura R.

Demons Blazon is Gargyles Quest for the SFC.Dunno what the US version is called, demon's quest or something??
