Thats all i got in my pc anyways, the only card in my machine is AGP graphics.
don't know what else to do?? would like to have some sort of linux installed but i may have to try and get XP installed and leave linux till i upgrade my computer

You can also install XP + virtual PC (free nowadays) to have ubuntu or any other linux/unix installed in a VM (virtual machine)
Other way around also possible (ubuntu + innotek virtualbox running XP or any other windows in a VM)
well thats good idea, can't get xp to install again so my last option is to install a copy of Vista RC2 that i have lying about.
I dont know how many ram modules you have inserted, but it wouldn't hurt to test them individually when trying to install an OS.
Maybe one of the modules overheated and got instable.
i currently got 1 512mb ram in my machine
vista rc2 won't install properly either so its a hardware probem and its either RAM or HDD
I run mem test last night for over 2 and half hours and didn't get any errors so my Ram is ok. Got ubuntu to install today but get to splash screen and loads halfway before restarting.
Windows can't be installed because my computer fails (except CD/DVD )to load up after the 1st screen has checked installed drives there for windows installation can't continue after it restarts comp.
I will probably be looking into upgarding my mobo and cpu now as i was planning on doing that eventually.
Oh dear - it sounds like your computer is really sick! I suspect that when your CPU overheated it (or your mobo) got fried. In future, make sure that you have your BIOS overheat warning and shutdown settings turned on to prevent that ever happening again. Really, really bad luck.
At least look on the bright side - it wasn't either Ubuntu or your fault that it was failing! :P
BIOS overheat warning probably was turned of after i reset bios setting to default after Unbuntu first failed. at least now i can think about getting new hardware which to me is very exciting, i'm like a little kid when i'm buying new computer stuff.
