If you are giving people credit for hacking a game apart, translating it, fixing bugs, then a hacker could just as easily make a background or two.
But the thing here is that the backgrounds shown matches perfectly (1:1) the ones seen in the official pictures and footage till now.
From the geometry, camera angle and lighting to the smallest details of the textures, where some 'random factor' would come into play.. even if Capcom itself tried to redo those backgrounds from 0 nowadays they wouldn't get that 100% perfect.

Exactly. Whoever is supposedly "reproducing" these backgrounds has done multiple unreleased background nye on pixel for pixel. If you think they're reproductions start analysing the images and show how that is the case by things which can't simply be explained by aspect ratio or artefacts of compression. Honestly to do all this is a LOT of work, I'm not doubting such a skilled person is alive out there but seriously the work involved is unreal. Just look at the images closely, every minor detail is there down to the pixels that the eye can see. Look closely on the pixel scale and find a detail that this "person" has missed!

This is why that shot looked familiar to me, 45 seconds in - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jluMPnoGvZs So yeah, my bad, like i said so much trash has been thrown around this game it's hard to remember what's what! I hope this is legit and they do release it as planned, i can understand them wanting to distance themselves a bit from the community whilst they work.
Clearly wrong.
Pointers (if I must)
- Zombie animation in the second picture is not of RE2's, zombie arms are lowered when walking, just like Bio 1.5's.
- Background of that area has not been discovered on any Trial Editions because it's not there. And it's also not a custom BG (put this shot and shots of this basement in 1.5 photos and can tell they are the same)
- Title screen is not a PC mod, when doing this in a a PC mod, the text appears Low Res and a highlight option would be white in the PC version. PSX 1.5 version is green, as such.

Yeah sorry about that, post went through before that one
Well for starters, the zombie animation from 1.5 has not been reproduced in any PC mods to this date. It's been tried but failed everytime. And seeing I was the one who discovered these two recent photos from he/she who posted the new ones a week ago, pretty clear it's from the legit build they are working on.

Well the reasoning "I found it so it must be genuine" is a bit flimsy. The questions that remain for me are, why are 'they' only showing areas we've already seen a dozen times over? Why aren't 'they' showing video, which would be pretty much be guaranteed to prove whatever it is one way or the other? It looks good yes, but a lot of things look good on the surface, and this particular game has always been one massive troll magnet over the many years. This could be real sure, but it hasn't gone so far that it couldn't be a wind-up too, screenshots can be faked if you're good enough and have a decent reference which all these have had so far. I'll start believing when something irrefutable comes up. I'll keep hoping though.

While I do understand (and respect) the questions being raised by Borman here, the 1:1 affirmation can be easily proved by the following:
Screenshot taken from the new source.
Screenshot taken from the PSM video on YT @ ~0:45 in the link posted by rewak.
Now, if we align slightly and overlay both images (using the screen filter) on photoshop, W/O any other modification, this is what we get:
If there were any differences in the speckles on the floor (which surely were generated randomically by a dirt/noise shader) and/or in the tiles on the wall (that, btw, has the same misalignment on the left corner in both images), we'd see some ghosting on them.. just like we can see on the zombies/Leon.
As a plus, we also can see that the color compression of the PSX, which results in a noticeable gradient in the shaded areas, are exactly the same.
With that said, if this turns out to be a fake as Borman suspects, I'd have to take my hat off to the guy doing such impressive 1:1 repros of the game backgrounds...![]()

Isn't this just some fan's attempt at translating and "fixing" certain issues present in a build that is almost identical to (but probably not sourced from the same disc as) Curator's copy, which is far less complete than the Bioflames or Complete Disc versions? I guess it's better than nothing, even though I'd rather we just got the last development code and perhaps a few earlier revisions, as happened with the RE1 leak a while back...
Just putting my opinion forward seeing I'm currently involved with a big RE2 PC project (Distant Memories) and can tell when someone has modded or not. RE2's zombie animations tend to walk with their arms shoulder length, in 1.5 their arms are waist height - as appears in this photo and in other 1.5 videos.
Not just that, the background is a A grade comparison to Cruator's basement footage, which gives it enough away.
Dont get me wrong, I'd want a video too just to be certain, but doesn't seem we have one just yet.

I'd happily donate to get this sucker out there like the GBC versions.
if i had to be honest though the main things i want to know is about the story setup. Are there files in the game which we can finally translate?
Are there any cutscenes with more story/background info revealed? etc.
I'd be happy to just know the true story/background of 1.5 and never get to play it. hell I'd pay to just see a full video walkthrough from beginning to end or as far as can be done...
if it got released all the psx hackers would probably find tonnes of amazing things, but i just wanna see the game and know some info i guess..
I've been following 1.5 since 2005 on bioflames but I'm not so insane like some fans who pm and post threats. I don't get what the fuck is wrong with people like that... Let the people in charge sort it.

That is proof enough for me.
Dammit ASSEMbler, you waste. All of the people you brought together with this forum, all the great times had by many, all mean nothing now that I know you and the Curator are one. All the money out of your pocket spent to keep the site up, without a dime of my contribution, all the releases you have made and all the helpful posts... and then you go and purchase something that was for sale that I wanted? You piece...
Point is, even if such a half-assed story could be true, it wouldn't take away from ASSEM's greatness in the least. After all he has provided us with, he would Deserve to have something like 1.5 (to bask in its glory) (or to make a quick penny with) (or even to destroy if he so pleased!).
