No; it distracts buyers and removes the focus from the item.
I have noticed that a lot of people are looking at for sale threads and turning them into running discussions. This in effect hurts the sale as the possible buyer has to sort through pages of banter and sometimes sale derailing, or at worst, hijacking.
So we have a vote:
Is conversation not related to the item's direct sale wanted in marketplace?
All people need to do is send a PM or post that a PM was sent (I usually subscribe to my FS threads). Even legitimate questions can be answered via PM.
Whilst I'd agree that some of the 'chat' goes OT & is unneccesary, I think there is still a place for some conversation in a FS thread, if it adds additional pertinent information, or is a request for info that might also be useful to other readers of the thread.Originally Posted by graciano1337

If the buyer was smart enough, they'd PM the seller.
We're talking about banter not relating to the sale.
As long as it is somewhat realated to the sale (a question on the product or additional information) I say let it live.
As both a seller and a buyer I will not complain about a free bump on a marketplace thread. :)

I think the For Free thread should only have things that are for free and people should PM the person and only questions about the item should be allowed, everything else should be culled to keep that thread managable.
As for bumps, if the seller is reducing the price of an item after a few bumps then bump away, if the seller is just bumping for the sake of bumping then they should be struck down with the plague for being greedy sods. :)
If it's not related to the sale, it should not be in the thread.

Comments in for sale threads should relate to the item(s) for sale like shipping item condition what item capable of or what not.
I also think general posts which may be to correct something a seller has put which might be wrong or inaccurate or simmilar is ok if it helps the seller and any pottential buyer.
Guilty as charged! However, the discussion relates to the item. A lot of us do it though and if it pisses off the seller than I think we should stop, however on the other hand sometimes the discussions are benefitial in more than one way to the seller. First of all further information comes to light and second of all it keeps threads near the top.
I can see the down side of it though!

Yeah I'd tend to agree with the comments made above, whereby if the posts are adding value to the original thread, let them be. On the flip side, posts such as "yeah I want one too" or "damn that's a great price but I'm skint right now" are pointless imho.
If a thread naturally dries up, I think bumps should be allowed but limited. Some appear to have a "bump-a-week" thing going on, which is just a pain in the ass and achieves very little. Perhaps a "3 bumps and your out" type scenario could be introduced, any more = thread deleted.

Anyone and everyone can keep track - they'll be visible to all right? Granted a Mod will need to intervene to remove any offending thread, but once people start getting used to the idea, it shouldn't happen too often. Perhaps Bumps should be numbered, ie "Bump 1", "Bump 2".....?
