Thread: SONY PSX DESR-5100 queries

  1. #101
Perhaps he figured it was like the PS2 HDD and that it could simply be reformatted by the PSX itself.

Hey, they could have been some invaluable beta isos there! ;)
You never know what hidden stuff can find, like dev tools in the desr update discs dummy...

Sorry but anyone who put a modchip on a DESR unit deserves public spanking. :flamethrower::evil:

Why you don't try to find an normal Japanese PS2 with an modchip or exploit installed and make FMCB boot memory card on it ? That should work on the DESR after made properly.

really? I thought the differing versions of the dvd player were the determining factor in FMCB's success- that and getting FMCB to boot a modified dash on a system with a (from what I can tell) completely drive-loaded rom substitute would be issues?

I haven't had the time to sit down with my new psx and see, but the boot sequence alone makes me wonder if said exploit would do.. anything...

I (and I believe unclejun did too) tried the DESR bios on PCSX2 and it is just an heavily customized SCPH-10000 bios. It should be able to boot a KELF from the MC. The differing version of DVD player is no issue as long the Magic Gate region does match. The MG region coincides with the DVD Player region for the specific console and to make an bootable card for an DESR you would need an exploited JPN console.

I have spent a few hours trying to unpack the DESR OSD to see which file name it tries to look when it's loading stuff from the MC but I can't unpack that with the existing tools. There's a chance it might not work because of that.

The 10k reads osdsys.elf from BIEXEC-SYSTEM at both memory card slots.
The 18k want it's boot file to be osd120.elf.
Newer consoles (30000 and up) look for osdXXX.elf (XXX is the rom version number) and osdmain.elf...

The v3 console that I have only boots from osd130.elf, not osdmain.elf. v4 and up always seem to check for osdmain.elf as well as the coresponding osdxxx for their ROM version, however.

    Yes you're correct.

What people call "V1" (And Sony calls "B-Chassis") loads osd110.elf. Board type is GH-004

What people call "V2" (And Sony calls "B'-Chassis") loads osd120.elf. Board type is GH-005.

GH-006 or "C-Chassis" (in the US) uses the 120 ROM so it loads osd120.elf.

GH-007 exists but I've only seen it on PAL units.

I'd assume you have an PAL system, not ?

Edit: Scratch that. After testing, V1 ROM (version 110) reads only osd120.elf, ROM 120 reads only osd130.elf and ROM 130 and up reads it's version number (+10) and osdmain.elf. Sorry for my mistake. It's been a while I don't deal with these files.

Yes, it's a PAL system, but it has a GH-006 motherboard. It was one of the European release day 1 systems, which may be why it has a GH-006 and not a GH-007. It has a ROMVER string of ''0120EC20000902_'' according to uLE, which means that its ROM version is 120. This is the correct way to determine ROM version. Right?

    This is all very interesting...

on a random topic- is there a way to switch the d-terminal's output to rgb, or is it permanently stuck at component due to the fact that all d-term tvs only use component?
Just got the cable and made the assumption that it'd work fine with my rgb-only pvm.. yay for green!

Hello I'm very interested in these update discs. either one will work for me since i have desr-5000 with a missing hard drive and I'd like to be able to get this working again. I found the page where you can order these from sony directly but I don't understand what it says or what it's asking for.

I would be very happy to share the disc iso's online for other people to use if I can get some or if someone wouldn't mind sharing theirs, that would be even better.

Here's the sites to order the psx upgrade discs. I dont know how much you'd need to pay or where they would ship them to. If anyone can translate this info better than google can, Thanks!

    the site: http://www.psx.sony.co.jp/support/upgrade7000cd.html

    the form: https://entry1.sony.jp/psx/upgrade_cd_form.html

I really want to get this working again. I have another psx, same model that works great but despite my greatest efforts on any OS, I remain unable to clone the drive. It also worries me that the working psx will have a drive failure. :-(

    Well
i know for sure that i sold one of the disc to another assembler user (this one gone to usa)
i am not sure if i still got the other one, but just to clarify this :
you need an original disc, cause as far as i know, there is no way to load backups on the PSX
correct me if i am wrong ...
