    Some news.

Famicom shit arrived a week ago, 12 kilograms of 8-bit heaven:

So much average and uninteresting stuff (I have to make some progress with my Famicom collecting, finally!), but there are some gems in there. Notice the 6 pulse line carts in the middle of the picture - there's a (nice) condition Gomokunarabe among it. It's missing the manual, but that can be easily bought on yahoo (other than the box!). I've got a total of 8 boxed pulse line carts now! Only significant ones I gotta go after are Donkey Kongs and Popeye's now, which won't be easy!

Also those HUGE Koei games pissed me off, so I finally had to buy them. They are heavy as shit because of the fat manuals & maps.... oh, and I seem to have increased my Namcot-collection by about 300% LOL (i.e. Dreammaster, Yumebouken, Dragon Spirit, Wagyan Land 2).

Something I've always wanted to have is the Akira-Game by Taito, so, well...

Other stuff worth mentioning: Nissan Collection Terrano & Primera WITH SPINECARD. Wooooo... finally, these Nissan VCD's with Sega Saturn-serials are a PAIN to find. Finally I got both of them in mint condition - with spine-cards & reg-cards :) Unfortunately I don't have access to my other VCD's right now, otherwise I'd immediately take a picture of my complete Saturn-VCD-collection with CG Collection and both Nissan discs... :O

The PCE-games (Crest of Wolf, Sexy Idol Mahjong, Blodia, Rock On, Energy) and Slot Shooting (SS) are sealed.

    More stuff:

    All sealed.

    Some of the sealed highlights:

    Advanced Variable Geo Limited Box.
As can be seen on the initial picture, I have both sealed - the single retail version and the limited box. (I didn't take it out of the box)

Suiko Enbu ~ Fuun Saiki (sealed)

Mortal Kombat II Kanzenban (sealed) - I think this one is pretty uncommon sealed. It's in crappy shrinkwrap, too... damn you, Acclaim.

Another uncommon one (if sealed) - SF II Movie.

I also bought this bundle for... please take a seat......... 500yen ($6)!

Yes, the entire bundle with Shining Force Episode 3, Night Striker, Wipeout, Guardian Heroes etc... it looked really shitty on the pictures, but it had the really rare Wipeout XL so I bid a "whatever"-ish 500yen on it. I won the auction.

Now here's the fun part. Turns out the only game that had a spine-card hidden inside the case was......

    I love Yahoo Japan! :P

    Finally, wipeout XL mint!!!

I know someone who acts as a middleman, but it's like a courier service (with a website and you can bid yourself and all). I couldn't imagine collecting without Yahoo Japan anymore!

    Neat update ave!

How many Famicom games do you have now? I imagine quite a lot. Will you try to collect a full set too like Sega Saturn?

Are you still collecting Gradius/Nemesis games? If yes, how is that going?

indeed, I'm trying to go for the full set, but it will probably take me 10 more years if I accomplish this goal at all :0
With the latest update, I have about 175 boxed famicom cartridge games, two of which are missing the manual but otherwise complete. That's 16.6% of the full set.
Are you still collecting Gradius/Nemesis games? If yes, how is that going?
Yeah, but not very actively :S the only things I bought recently were a sticker sheet to complete my copy of PCE Gradius 2 as well as a mint copy of GB Parodius. I'm mostly missing the super famicom stuff and some of rarer items like Archimendes Gradius and PCBs.

    @hexigon
I paid 13000yen for the sealed Saturn bundle (20games). I divided the # of games by the full amount for all items incl shipping, so the separate price for each single game was quite low (<5 Euro)!

$50 sounds like a fair price though! The single version usually goes for 30-40. (not sealed)

Insane is the word alright! $50 is a lot for the game since it's a stock image, it will be a stab in the dark if I ordered it ><

It was, but there were also plenty of charges! Yahoo isn't any cheaper than ebay BIN stuff if you buy games separately (i.e. "I want to buy 2 expensive Saturn-shooters and only those"), but if you don't mind big bundles, then this is the place to go. I've seen crazy bundles going for next to nothing :( Like a set of 150 PC-Engine CD-titles, all with spine-cards and many of them sealed, for a mere 45000yen! I wish I had the money back then.

I know, my mistake though I was meaning to write the other part in a separate line. Silly me :P

Don't worry Ave, I've been there many times before, not having money when it's needed. :(
I remember being too young for a PayPal account and I found so many rare things on eBay back in the day, and now I can barely find anything X_X

I would just ask the guy if he could take an actual picture. I never buy stuff without a good picture... too many bad surprises. There are a few YAJ-auctions that I really regret not winning, usually huge bundles. I once won a 150 game Famicom bundle for a friend of mine, it was only 45000 yen either and there were so many great gems among it, lots of really early Namco/Konami/Nintendo stuff. Luckily this friend was a reseller, so I got lots of good deals off of him (games from the same bundle), like a mint Mario Brothers (FC) for 5 Euros. It's really hard to find it in this condition, it even feels new (rough carton surface) o_O

I just wish I had won the entire bundle, lol.

I think it will be worth it though at the end of 10 years.

I see from older posts also that you like items to be complete/good condition, and I think that too presents quite a challenge collecting famicom games.

    Good luck with everything!

Depending on the bundle reselling works quite well ;) I bought a N64 bundle from someone in school for $60 with 20 games, and sold it for $170 of course not the *best* success story but great non-the-less.

    Thanks!
Yeah, I believe it will be worth it. I don't know if the value will rise, but I don't ever collect anything as an investment anyway - I just like to have all this culture (and I consider the Famicom the cornerstone of Japanese video games) in my possession. Every Japanese person knows the Famicom, that's why I love it so much - like a bit of Japan, in my house (other than i.e. a PC-Engine or Mega Drive, which are video gaming legends but not as essential as the Famicom).

It'll definitely become harder and harder to find Famicom-games in good condition. Granted, most of my FC games are not mint by any chance, but they are complete and not crushed/torn and that's all I'm going for at this point. There's such a thin line between a mint/new FC game and a complete/good condition one. Some games are suddenly sold for 10'000jpy "mint" while they only go for 3'000 in very good condition (with a few slight marks). I'm not gonna enter this market, it's crazy and I'd never do any progress because unfortunately I'm not rich! :P

Before I started collecting I was wondering if I should just go for a loose collection like almost everyone who collects Famicom. It's so easy, but I don't like it, even if it's just for fun. There's so much one would be missing... Famicom manuals can, depending on the company and age, be so amazing! Small comics, sticker sheets, drawings... the same applies to the boxes. Aren't all those little differences too lovely? Like the fact that early Jaleco-games had upside-down backcovers so you'd only have to flip the box, or that the early Konami boxes had TV-screen-shaped screenshots on the back. Or the beautiful pulse line boxes with their simple but nicely drawn artwork, completely free of any disturbing logo?

Famicom love ftw. I think if I'd ever live in Japan, I'd go FC hunting everyday. It's such a shame that I had zero interest in the console when I was there in 2007 Lol. But I'll go again!

That's a real nice bundle of Famicom stuff! Just looked through this thread for the first time in a year or so, and I must say the collection is looking very nice mate! I'd love to open all that sealed stuff thou ;).

I must say too, the Famicom is really high on my interest radar at the minute. I'm coming near to finishing my PAL Mega Drive set (under 40 games left to go) so have started researching what's next on the list. At the minute I think it's a toss up between PC Engine and Famicom as I love 8 bit stuff, but I'm leaning heavily towards Famicom, even started learning Japanese lol! Is there any decent sites with good Famicom game lists/pictures about that you know of?

Keep up the great collection :)

Thanks man! I will take a break from collecting from now on though, I just have to force myself to stop because it doesn't make any sense in my life right now. :(
I still love games and I am still as nerdy as I used to be, boxed hardware and sparkling spinecards make my mouth all watery as they used to. But my current situation forces me to refrain from any gaming since my collection is at my parents' house and I am home only for about 3-4 weeks a year, a state that will last at least another 3 years. That said, spending my money on items that I can't use or even look at/organize ("collect") would still seem fun to me, but it doesn't make much sense. I guess I will now start spending my money on traveling, clubbing, going to places, et cetera... and resume my collection once I either go to Japan or graduate, whatever comes first. :)

Under 40 games, that's insane! You already have many great rarities, I wonder what you're still missing. Probably just some weird and unexpected titles, PAL Mega Drive can be really tricky.

The Famicom is lovely, but also hard to collect (a nice challenge?) depending on your taste. If you like the really oldschool stuff, then you will have a hard time finding it in great condition (like 1983/84/85 Nintendo & Namco, Konami games), if you are into the well-known premium titles (Recca, Battle Formula, Gimmick, Bio Miracle) you will have to pay a fortune for each one, too. I find it very motivating to collect Famicom-games though, as I said it feels like you collect unique little pieces of Japanese culture. I find it hard to read Japanese in Famicom-games though. Most games feature Hiragana only, which is convenient if you don't know many Kanji, but it makes it a lot harder to spot separate words I believe. Sometimes I read a phrase and feel like a retard: Watakushihatanakahiroshitomoushimasu...blablblblbl . wtf? No Kanji, no spaces, hard time for little ave. It's way easier in anything 16bit and beyond since they finally use Kanji!

As for nice little lists: Videogameden is awesome, the author is also a member of Assembler but I forgot his name.

    ..................

    Some new GBA games:

    new GC:

Wait a second Dolan, are you trying to trick me again??

47 of them, including all GB Pokemons, lots of Famicom/GC/GBA:

I also got some real games, however.

    Famicom news:

Red Arreemer II, Solstice, Punch-Out!!, Exciting Rally, Rollerball, Golf, Baltron, Popeye no Eigo-Asobi

4 out of 5 rereleased Namco-games in hardcases. (Mappy is missing)
With the exception of DigDug, all of these are mint with sticker/regcard!

2 rare Sega Saturn demos, both brand-new and sealed:

    - Sakura Taisen Teikokukagekidan Taiin Meibo - brand-new & sealed with all paperwork!)
    - Monster Slider

The first copy of Monster Slider I've ever seen for sale! According to Mr. Satakore, this one is really rare... wipes the floor with Delisoba, apparently :P
Cost me only $3 though. As opposed to Sakura Taisen which was a lot more expensive...

And I wonder if I'm the first one to notice this:

The Saturn-Logo on the left is the wrong way around on the demo sleeve

Also received a complete/mint Dreamcast Express set with Vol 1-7 & Extra (the latter is sealed) - and some 10+ new DC promo mousepads (picture taken from auction cause I keep them packaged)

My current Famicom collection (189 CIB carts & some disks - missing some disk boxsets such as Bubble Bobble)

    That's all.
