    Cheap bikes in Tokyo

Before some suggests that I just go to a bike stand and just wheel one away, that's not going to happen... (A friend of mine suggested this...).

Is there anywhere in Tokyo that I could buy a cheap <20,000 Yen mountain or city bike (ie something with at least 12 gears), new or second hand? Tried google but that ain't no help. :crying:

Want to get something this weekend as I'm fed up of spending 320 Yen to go 4 miles do the road.

Your not going to find much new for less than 20,000. 30,000 would work. Depending on what size you need, you might be able to find on on Yahoo Japan. If you're my size (188cm) you're fucked... there's only a couple of really large models available in the country, and they are pricey.

188cm ! You lanky bastard ! I feel quite tall in Japan actually at 180cm however the other day I met a few Americans looking lost as hell in Shimonoseki Station (No English you see). So I go over to see if they need any help only to realize that I actually had to look up at these guys. man, they all dwarfed me !

It never fails to amaze me how many really nice bikes are abandoned in bushes and alleys... of course to take one, the j-police would swoop down out of nowhere. Damn shame.

It's like scooters, you can find nice ones overgrown with vines ...

Check the Metropolis classifieds every now and then for used stuff.

There's a a listing of a 27 inch city bike for 9,000. Has only six gears though.

I bought a decent (if heavy) 21 speed mountain bike for less then £100 when I was back in the UK, hence the <Y20,000 or so, most shops only seem to have expensive mountain bikes or cheap bikes with 1 gear. I am only 175cm so I should be okay, did ride a friends daughters bike so shoud be okay with most things.

Cez : I've emailed them and got no reply, did post an advert elsewhere but so far no luck apart from 2 people with expensive bikes.

Do the Japanese Police hold auctions? If they do I'd try there.
Well, it's rather brutal here. Right now we are advising all our clients to put everything they've got into canned food and shotguns.

I don't know what they do w/ the abandoned bikes. They're probably too busy giving tickets and confiscating the illegally parked ones. Shibuya fucking ward basically made it illegal to park on any sidewalk (near the station. Shinjuku did the same thing. They're now spreading them to other parts of the city.

more the reason to move out of Tokyo :) Actually it's fucking school students that are the major twats in the no place to park a bike. Even down here the little shits park their bikes at the station then never seem to them take them away. I've started to see how many bikes never move from the same spot. It's well over half of them. Really pisses me off because finding a spot to park the bike at the train station every morning now is a bloody joke.

I suggest that they tag every bike there and if it's still there 2 weeks later with the tag then it gets destroyed ! Oh, and ban prick parking there scoters in the bike place as well
