It is far more widespread than just the red states. The amount of people that have a what I consider a general ignorance in this country is just astounding. By general ignorance I mean people who can function but have little knowledge (and make little attempt to inform themselves) about things that do not directly affect their lives.

Everywhere you go in the world there are people who don't know what should be basic knowledge. Its just a pity that in the developed world its because people don't care or can't be bothered to be educated or educate themselves, when often its handed on a plate to them.
I'm not sure if I could point London out on a map, either. I've got a general idea, but its not something I really think about. I don't sit around and think "Hot damn, I wonder where London is? I want to see Big Ben!"
I'm not much of a traveling person anyway. I don't really want to go to Japan, Paris, London, New York City....anywhere really. I can't think of anything out there I'd want to actually see. If I wanted to buy something, i'd just import it. I even turned down a free trip to Disney World last year, but I dunno. That sounds like a kiddy thing anyway.

In our History and Geography classes, we covered a LOT on Russia, Europe, South America, Africa...the works. I remember one of our history classes before Middle school focused on the Revolutionary war, however. We did have to take an Arkansas History class though, which I think was bullshit. I know it may seem like this to everyone else, and maybe skewed in your media system (as ours probably is as well, not pointing fingers) but not everyone in the South is a gibbering idiot. Hillbillies at least are confined to the hills. What about "Wiggers"? They go into the cities and multiply rapidly. I think those damn "Gangstas" are the real cancer of this country. And I'm sure Europe has its fair share of hoodlums, scallywags, and ruffians as well.
I think it sounds a little arrogant and snooty for someone to say something about that about another countries education system, when other countries do it as well. Our country doesn't behead gays, but we still get more of a bad rep for not letting them get married. Not attacking you or anyone, but its a little ridiculous, imo.

I agree, was just saying what someone in education had said, but then I don't give teachers much credibility, one teacher told me "only women feel love, men just feel with their dicks" or something stupid like that, oh this was "all men except her husband" naturally... I think I went to a rather disturbed school now thinking about it...

And if you gave me a map over your state, and told me to find the capital of that state, with you mentioning the name. Then I believe, I could find it too. Since I don´t believe you can´t find London on a map that covers England.

It doesn't matter if you can pin point a city on a map or not. I haven't got a clue where any US city is and I don't care either but I sure as hell know what language Americans speak as well as pretty much every other country in the world. Not knowing people speak in English in London is just plain dumb.

he's a professional athlete. He probably got special treatment in school all the way up to where he is now. Plenty of athletes only hang out with their friends, fuck cheerleaders, practice football, and get easy classes their whole way through their school years.
