Thread: Is anyone else sort of pissed that Okami on Wii will be a straight port...

    Is anyone else sort of pissed that Okami on Wii will be a straight port...

    I definitely was one of the people who wanted to see Okami on the Wii. Heck, I even emailled capcom about it.

    But, I can't help but feel a bit saddened that this game will be a straight port. No additions, no graphical updates... no nothing.

    At least this is according to the brand new ign article on all this
    http://wii.ign.com/articles/828/828620p1.html

    The reason this upsets me so much is because it just feel like this will be some rushed effort. I definitely get that "a masterpiece should not be changed" and all that. But, couldn't there be something... I mean I feel this game deserves Wii controls, but something about all this makes me feel that this is a wii-make ...

    There is some hope from the 1up interview of another project member who says

    "Whether Okami for Wii will feature additional or expanded content is undecided at this point. Svensson says that Ready at Dawn has been working on the port with little assistance from the original development team, and as such, transferring the original content within a reasonable timeframe takes precedence. However, should Ready at Dawn complete its primary work ahead of the game's expected release in the first half of 2008, it's entirely possible that we'll see a more robust version of Amaterasu's adventure on the Wii."

    But, judging from ign, we shouldn't except much...

    Personally I wouldn't mind a delay to see some extra worthwhile things added.

    How does everyone else feel?

    Be happy the game is done by freaking Ready at Dawn (makers of daxter psp & god of war psp) and not TOSE. Ready at Dawn knows what the **** they're doing.

    If the game is so fucking good to get ported why did Capcom shitcan Clover? Morons. I don't have a Wii due to standards, but if I did, I'd probably not buy this on principle alone. That and I don't have 40 hours to devote to it.

    I'd love to see the Okami experience improved on the Wii, but danger is there when something is done well trying to improve it is very risky.

    I'd sooner see sales on the Wii of Okami do well and fund an Okami II.

    >>If the game is so fucking good to get ported why did Capcom shitcan Clover?
    You are mistaking 'good' with commerical success. Okami is IMHO a superb game(magazine reviews say the same). However, it didn't do as well on the shelves as it was critically well reviewed.

    >>The Wii is a garbage platform anyway
    >>I don't have a Wii due to standards
    Why do people trash a platform without justifying. Pointless.

    <IMHO>
    Sega are the best thing to have happened to the gaming industry. Nintendo today whether you like it or not are the closest thing to what Sega was in terms of creativity and pushing the envelope.

    Sony produce technically strong but mainstream products (eye toy is an exception). Microsoft are just in it to bash other companies and produce mainstream technology with a lot of marketing behind it - although fair dues they've got some excellent 360 titles out there.

    (for the record I have sega, nintendo, m$ and sony consoles, so don't feel I'm unfairly biased).
    </IMHO>

    All the current consoles have something I want.

    Though the PS3 right now is too expensive to buy for the 4 or 5 so games I want for it. Maybe one day. I've got a fairly good source of income, btw.

    Its a interesting position for Capcom, one I am sure they did due to RE4 doing so well on it. I never finished Okami, so the lack of new content doesn't bother me as much. As long as it uses the Wiimote to draw and has a decent price point ($30 is what it should be), then I will pick it up.

    Who knows? Maybe a Okami DS game or Okami 2 might come from it if this does well. There might not be Clover anymore, but the concept is there.

    If the game wasn't commercially successful, why are they porting it? It's not like the game was a total bomb. Capcom should be smart enough to realize the group had potential. Maybe they just needed better marketing? This is the problem w/ the games world today. It's not about money. It's about absolutely maximizing profits on every release.

    It is just like the ass hats which are the movie industry. Quality films are few and far between b/c the average Joe is a hopeless dipshit that wants to see some fucking talking car, Paris Hilton, or worst of all, an unrealistic happy ending. Movies that should be aimed at adults are dumbed down and unnatural b/c the movie execs fight for a PG-13 rating. Why? Money. Never mind picking up some otherwise obscure fans that wouldn't give a recent Capcom game the time of day. They ditch the one creative group they have and make two new versus fighting games. Nothing wrong w/ those games I guess, but a few economically unsound (yet good) games are hardly going to sink the ship.

    There might not be Clover anymore, but the concept is there.
    Unfortunately concept does not a game make. Content and style do. Look at Nights coming up. Looks pretty meh from what I've seen, and I love the first one. Would Yuji Naka have made it better? Probably not, but that's a long since beaten horse. The guys that made this game were pretty passionate about this project. If a sequel comes out without such conviction, it'll just be another collect-o-thon.

    Fortunately, Capcom is in a better position then Sega is. Capcom has shown that they can handle other's games with a variety of success, such as the Zelda: Oracle series and Four Swords/Minish Cap series. Sega can't even make a port of a nearly 15 year old game without fucking everything up (AKA: The horrble GBA port of Sonic the Hedgehog). I have some trust in Capcom, although I don't see Okami doing all that much better unless there is a lack of Wii games in the near future.

    The Oracle series from a different Capcom... those were ages ago. Sega was still putting out quality then to some extent. Minish Cap is fair game though, as Sega was pretty much done for at that point. Their "collection" series are worthless though. Sega has definitely 1up'ed them on that.

    I don't mind straight ports, atleast not in the case of Okami, as the first thing that somewhat struck me when I tried the first demo of the game was "The concept is sweet, but these controls are almost every single flavor of wrong for a concept like this."

    Though, in the case of Okami, there are several things that could need some "adjustments" (difficulty being one such thing). So I atleast hope they'll be tweaking the difficulty of the game and/or adding some new difficulty settings, as the PS2 version is a cakewalk. Guess the game will be supporting 16:9 480p too. (Don't know if the original did)

    The only other thing I hope is that this wont mean that the game will be launched with a blood money pricetag. As Okami (PS2) was launched with a rather somewhat low price to begin with (or well, it wasn't launched with a high price, I guess that's a better way to put it), so I'd be somewhat puzzled if a straight 1:1 port would suddenly end up costing over x1,5 the price of the original PS2 release.

    It had better not retail for more than 30USD. I mean, considering it's almost like the RE4 port in terms of what's being included... then Capcom should know not to get cocky and slap on anything higher. Hell, I've never played Okami before and paying any higher may not be that bad really... but just out of principle alone, Capcom really needs to keep this "budget-priced."

    Cocky bastards like Ubisoft charging $50 for essentially the same game with shitty waggle. "LAWL"

    Big sales != Better
    Look at the music industry. Quality seems to be inversely proportionate to sales. The DC sold horribly and is one of the most beloved systems here.
