I couldn't post in the regular section so I thought I'd throw this up here. I just got a promo email from XBOX saying they're offering the HD DVD player for $179 plus you get 5 free HD DVD movies.

Considering new HD DVD moves go for $30 a pop you're getting the DVD player for less than $30...

Wow... that sounded like a great deal. Too bad you can only choose from a list of movies that suck (except Full Metal Jacket).

The UK has a fimilar offer at the moment as well where yoy get 5 free films via rebate, some decent titles as well inc Riddick, Serenity etc.

thats pretty much swayed me to purchase one in the near future

Yeah the titles aren't great, but there were 2-3 that I wouldn't mind owning but probably wouldn't get around to buying. Overall the $179 for the player and 5 random titles is still pretty good. If I were in the US with a HDTV I think I'd get it.
