Metroid Prime Gamecube Bundle Box Art

So I had finally accumulated enough tip money over the past weeks that I broke down and got my own Gamecube so I wouldn't have to be borrowing my roommate's friend's forever. The one I picked up was the Metroid Prime Bundle, containing one of the nifty Platinum cubes and controller, as well as Metroid Prime and a playable demo of Prime 2: Echoes (which I really want now). I just thought I'd draw your attention to the box art, which I found to be utterly kickass:

Not sure if different Gamecube box variations will ever be as wanted as Dreamcast ones, but in case anyone has an interest... An odd note is that the Samus 'box' is just merely a slipcover that slides horizontally over a stock US Gamecube box...

Yeah they do that slipcover thing with pretty much every "special edition" pack. If you remember they did the same with the SNES/N64. I really want that version of Metroid with the demo disk, there are loads on ebay but they are asking way too much sometimes.

The demo disc is fairly cool, but don't get your hopes up too much. There's a preview video on it and then the playable demo, which is long enough to let you in on some of the interesting new mechanics of the game and get you hyped up, but short enough that you'll go through it in 15 minutes and be cursing the game isn't released yet.

It does have a fairly nifty feaure in the way of a Metroid timeline, giving the relationship of each game to the others and providing a summary of the events. However, it's still in no way worth the money some are charging for just the disc. My suggestion if you don't have Metroid Prime (or can easily sell your copy) you buy one of the 2-disc packages on eBay - they contain the full Prime and the Echoes demo, and are BIN for $30.

A tad OT, but was Metroid PRime actually any good?

I played an in-store demo and got bored as hell...and even then, I can't stand FPS on a controller.

And within a week or two of release the game was filling up the secondhand bins in my local gamestore.
I agree to all auction Guidlines. Still.

Nintendo is giving away the demo disc in the US like they did with the Zelda games. You have to have five games and a system registered at their site I believe. It sucks because I'm one registration short. Hopefully my store will get a game I can snag a code from.

DeathCoaster: I'm not a fan of FPS games on the console, but Metroid was surprisingly good. There are very few parts where you will be left without a clear objective or something to do, and while the backtracking can be a little bothersome at times, if you're anything like me you'll be too busy gawking at the really awesome scenery or listening to the music to complain much, plus there wasn't as much required as in the first generation of Metroid games. I'd say go for it, at least give the game a rental.

As far as Prime being released with the Echoes demo, I'm not sure if it is being released like that in stores, or if people on eBay have just bought the Gamecube set and are selling the games seperately. Here's an example of the auction I mentioned: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...128181272&rd=1

And on a rather disappointing note, the Gamecube that comes in the Prime package has had its Digital I/O port removed on the back, with only the analog port remaining. Now while this isn't a problem for me yet, assuming I sometime come across a TV with component inputs, am I going to be able to use the Nintendo component lead to play the GC, or am I out of luck and stuck with composite?

I read nintendo is supposedly going to make a special version of the componet cable that allows it to be used in the analog port due to them taking out the digital I/O port. Even if they do make this cable, it will still be avaliable only through nintendo's site.

Well, better there than none, I suppose, although composite on a good TV isn't all that bad either, but still....

i never played metroid prime , but what i can tell is that i don't like fps on a game cube pad. i mean, the joystick have corner, the z button is anoying when you must hit it repetitibly , the ''cross'' is reall too small and anoying and the l and r buttons aren't made for fps too.

i don't dislike fps with a pad in general , but the game cube pad (that is the most confortable pad in history btw (and imo) ) isn't made for fps at all. oh , and for fighting games too. (maybe i would change my toughts after playing prime and/or echoes)

on a contrary note , the pad is perfectly made for zelda! :-D
