    More Shenmue Beta Footage (Dreamcast)

I've added the first of 3 Shenmue early build videos to my site (Movie Vault - Dreamcast - Shenmue). This video shows loads of footage not found in the final game.

In the below shot you can see Ryo sitting under a Sakura Tree.

We never see Shenfa (SP?) on her own with the goat in this context. This is in fact the same scene shown in the Saturn build of the game. The scene was removed / changed in the final released.

In the final game Shenfa is with Ryo after he rescues the goat from the river. Here, however she's on her own looking in to the distance.

Notice that Ryo doesn't have a plaster on his face in this shot? He does in the final game. (And yes, this is the correct side of his face where the plaster should be)

The floor textures in the park are nothing like they are in the final game.

I have been a long time viewer of this website, but I have never joined. I enjoy the cool Dreamcast stuff you have been posting and just wanted to say "Thanks!".

I still need to play through Shenmue. I played through about... 1/8 of the second one for Xbox... but I just borrowed the game so I didn't get to finish it.

Really cool stuff man. If only we could somehow get a hold of the saturn build of shenmue, I would kill to have that.

One of these days I want to playthrough Shenmue 1 again so I can play Shenmue 2 on my 360 (yeah I know there is a movie but it just isnt the same)

I had played a bit into Shenmue 2 one time but my xbox hard drive died causing my save to go with it.

    No 18+ rating.

    Cool pics/vids, as usual.

Nice video yakumo. Do you by chance have a clearer video of that behind the scenes of shenmue video that had footage of the development process? I was wondering since the only version I've seen of it is in a really grainy real player file.

Ah, you mean the video over 1 hour long? No, sorry. All I have is the same crappy tinny sized pretty much unwatchable version that you have :( Still, I have more beta Shenmue footage to add to my site soon. Just got to get around to adding the audio track to it.

Great pics and video. I've started that game like four times and haven't been able to play more than 2 hours each time, thanks to not having my DC on my regular home. One of these days I'll switch the PS2 or GC for the DC and I'll try to finish both Shenmue games.

You should play the European Dreamcast version instead. It has the original Japanese soundtrack with English subtitles whereas the Xbox version is just dubbed. Much better in my opinion.

Oh nice. That sounds a lot better. I don't mind subtitles at all. I'll have to look into it. Thanks!

No, the footage in the top link is taken from Dreamcast MPEG videos that came on a Sega Partners Sega GDROM. I can't remember the name of them off the top of my head. The discs were very good and often featured unreleased game footage such as Giest Force, De De Planet, Black & White and Inoccent Tears as well as others and beta footage. The sad thing is that you could only get them if you were part of the Sega partners club so not many people have seen the footage on them.

Sega fans in Japan had it great with the Partner, Mogitate, Saturn Super and Flash discs all far superior to what the rest of the world got, such as the short-lived Bootleg Sampler and Flash demos - the latter not to be confused with its much better NTSC-J counterpart. If only some generous soul were to share these...

I have the lot ! All Saturn Sega Partner discs and all NTSC-J Flash discs plus all the DC ones as well. However, if these were to be released I'd not have my name attached to them

Yakumo: You've contributed much to show interesting stuff like this to many SEGA fans around the World (me among them). Althought I seem to be a crawler for saying that, many thanks for all this ;) .

Thanks, negora. At the moment I'm trying to find my old Illbleed promotion add. It's actually quite funny the way they use bad language on it. One phrase I remember went "You'll piss with fear"
