You need a better camera  on topic though, yeah Japanese car navis really kick arse ! Was the one you were using a Hard Drive based one? That's what I'm going to get for my car with a 500 gig HD. That should hold a good number of movies and music for well...... to last a year :p

    i have a lumix FX-9. it's all yu0tube's fault:lol:

yes it's a HDD one. it also plays any kind of formats and even has a memory stick slot. but the best is that you can display almost any combinis, gas stations, restaurants, shops, institution and so on, on your desire.

@aten: you may want believe it, but it's a chevrolet cruze:lol:

    like this one:

    the navi was build-in afterwards.

Excellent stuff! My Japanese Navi I had built in my BMW would not let you watch TV or movies while driving:(

    Oh and great track.
I honestly believe Gundam vs Gundam Extreme is the greatest game every created - seriously, check it out.

I was quite shocked to see the opposite in my Brother-in-laws car, DVD playing in the front and his 3 year old daughter jumping up and down on the passenger seat.... Japanese car safety laws seemed a little lax from what I saw.

Closest I have come to a decent navi was testing (playing really) on one of the display cars in Toyota's showroom in Ikebukuro. I liked the elvel of zooming all thw way out to just Japan in an Earth shaped pool... indicative of Japanese attitudes?

    Hahahahaha.....

Just got a Tomtom One XL over here, it comes with Japanese voices built in, a useful learning tool if a little dangerous.

Every Navi in Japan should be like that but you can disable the safety feature by pulling out one wire around the back. Very simple. Take the car to a garage to get it done if you can't do it. Don't take it to any official place mind you.

You don't say... I remember driving on the expressway to Yokohama at 120km/h (which is already above the speed limit, if I'm not mistaken) with all sorts of cars zipping past me on both sides... looked it up in the Lonely Planet, it said "while Japan's highways do have a speed limit, it seems to be universally ignored"

And my GPS was the shiznit, too. Could watch DVD & TV, navigate to phone numbers (which is very cool, imho), knew the brands of different gas stations - and that on the cheapest rental car they had available

Regards to Japanese speeding laws, isn't it basically the police won't act on speeding unless someone makes a complaint about speeding or the person speeding has done a criminal act (like hitting something). Hence Initial D, Wangan Midnight...

If Initial D was done in the UK, I can imagine Takumi being replaced by a Abergavenny chav by the name of Gareth who drives a beat up Renault 5 Turbo around the mountains of south Wales.

Back on topic, a lot of people in Japan seem to have Sat Navs, most of my friends have them in their cars and so do their friends and family. I did ask for a map one day, they looked at me as if I had just stepped in from the dark ages. I still prefer a map, makes driving more fun.

Most companies now give away free navi systems when you buy the car. If you're lucky you can get a full on entertainment model that will play anything you throw at it.

I think you havent ever seen a decent car in your life, audi mounts great devices called navi plus dvd on theyr cars (the same ones you got if you buy a lanbourguini) , these are great toys.

You cant compare a jap car or an american car with a german car.

did i ever compared my car to others? no. only talked about the navi system and these are superior to the rest of the world i believe.

the functionality is amazing. and believe me, in japan a navi is really useful, not comparable with country like germany were you watch once on the map and aready find the goal blindless in any pampas.

the huge database and the 3D displaying in japanese navi systems is just amazing, as well as the wohle realtime traffic situation implementation such as traffic jam, under costructions etc.

and compared to the quality/price ration, no other country even can compete close with those great masterpiece of products.

thanks god im not going to drive a korean car as yours with a jap navigator, im not from germany, and i tell you that these navigators are the same thingle than the 100 usd dvd players you can grab on the street.

Only thing i need now is some1 telling me that american cars are good, last time i was in new york i only saw expensive german cars (bmw, audi, mercedes benz) or expensive italian ones (ferrari, lanbourguini, maserati), dunno who buy these expensive american cars, if americans dont even like it.

Serantes, until you see a Japanese navi system you're best not commenting because you make yourself sound silly. I've seen British navi systems and they are pathetic compared to the ones in Japan. In fact the ones used in the UK now are about as good as the ones used in Japan 6 or 7 years ago. Too much missing data, not accurate enough and lacking in features.

As for German cars....... Watch BBC's Top Gear and they'll tell you what's hot and what's not. That show will tell you if a car is lacking no matter where it's made. Bloody good show that is.

i'm neither a car fanatic nor really interessted in cars. god beware. as well, i didn't bought that car. sorry, but still can't see the point of your discussion.
i'm only interessted in the car navi system. and when you think those are nothing else and the same as a 100 usd dvd player from the street, then that's fine. but i heavily don't believe, that you pay only for the DVD function if you buy a car navi, which is nothing more than a nice to have feature, and completelly separated from the actual navi system itself. and by the way, nice that all american are able to afford such great and sweet fat cat cars, but me and my wife are just ordinary mortals and never would spend a small empire for just a car on four wheels.

Korean and Jap cars are crap, european MAPS sux ofcourse, and bbc is not going to tell me what a good car is, i driven sooo many good cars in my life to know whats good and whats shit, and daewoo rembranded as chevrolet is one of the worst cars i can think about, sorry if i seem rude, its not my intention to say anyones car is shit, its just to say that the car itself is shit ...

I hope that when you say british cars you think about MG and such that crap, cause an Aston Martin is still an british car.
    Cheers

    I'll take a CTS-V over an M5 or RS4 any day.

No, remember that Japan is heaven for bureaucrats, and it is speeding tickets that funds the government. ;-)

The police up in Tohoku, anyway, are more than happy to pull over or flag down speeders and give them a nice big fine. I was in a car with my student about 3 weeks ago, and he was flagged down by a radar unit, and fined about 17,000 yen for doing 11km/h over the limit!

I still use a map, but have been interested in a GPS navigation system for a while now (since I have a horrible sense of direction). I don't need anything fancy mind you, just something to tell me where I'm going and how to get there

BTW, haven't the Japanese been using GPS Navigation systems in their cars for forever?

man, you either need to grow up, widen your knowledge about cars or just stop being so pigheaded blind. I'm British yet I'd buy a Japanese car any day over a British one unless I was to buy an Aston Martian. Yes, Korean cars on the whole are shite and I'm sure we all know that. The point is that each country makes good cars (well almost each country) but to turn around and state that nothing beats a German car is just bloody stupid. Toyota are the world biggest selling car for a reason you know.
