Broken Thunder was a piece of shit, and Tunderforce V wasnt that awesome either. I think the only thing I liked from it was the few arranged tunes (the ones on the ost cd and some doujin ones). And the ending piano tune with the cyborg talking (the one with the creepy dual voice, talking about humanity prospering/destroying itself - saying both at the same time, in the left/right audio channels).

    Unfortunately, thats not Tecno Soft*.

If Tecno Soft isn't making it, then its about as soulless as Panzer Dragoon Orta** was and about as relevant. I guess Sega ran out of their own franchises to run into the ground, so now they need to start fucking up the ones from other people.

    * By Tecno Soft, I mean CAProductions, which is the company formed by all the actual TALENT at Tecno Soft after they left shortly after making Hyper Duel and Thunder Force IV (and maybe Blast Wind). Unfortunately, these days CAProductions is the shadow developer for the Mario Party series (has been since MP5) and seems to be focused on making crappy Wii games. But shortly after they formed CAProductions, OMG they made some good stuff (Hagane (SNES), Sapphire (PCECD), Bulk Slash (Saturn), Zenki (SFC)).

So... fuck TFVI. Thats not Tecno Soft, thats Sega, and it looks like a soulless hack of TFIII-TFV, just like PDOrta was a soulless hack of PDIIZwei and PDSaga.

** I mention PDOrta because none of the masterminds behind the Panzer Dragoon trilogy worked on (Yukio Futatsugi, Tomohiro Kondo, Hidetoshi Takeshita, Manabu Kusunoki, etc.) which is why PDOrta isn't half as good as any entry in the original series.

I agree and don't, true CAP made some fantastic games and it's too bad they are stuck making Mario Party game but hey that sales...

Let's give the game a chance, the director seems to be decent enough, and from the scan yes there seems to be elements of previous episodes borrowed, but games like Gradius and Rtype have pretty much been the same thing over and over again rehashed. Apart from Gradius V which is a masterpiece indeed.

So maybe Tecnosoft is a shadow name behind TFVI but in the olden days SEGA knew how to make good games and they seem to be determined to go back to that that is if they can get rid of the western influence and management bullshit and keep it jap to the max!!!

Orta was fine I found, but not as legendary as the first and second.

Sorry sabre, I can never get excited about a game just because of its name and what number is behind it. I loved Tecno Soft because they were Tecno Soft, not because they made games called Thunder Force.

This isn't Tecno Soft. Therefore I have absolutely no interest in it. Its about as legit as Broken Thunder.

Give the game a chance I say. Sega can still make good games if they try. They will have the original sound composers I take it since they worked on the Segagaga R370 mini game which is no doubt Thunder Force based. Even the intro is pure Thunder Force. So good infact that many thought it was the lost introduction to Thunder Force 6 Dreamcast. Even I did.

So, If Sega could pull that off maybe we still have hope. Fingers crossed everyone.

How will you know how good or bad the game is as you won't buy a PS2 to play the game on. Going to stand behind someone playing it and review games like that did in the 80's? ;-)

Anyway jp. seems to think the sun shines out of the old Tecnosofts behind and they did make some truely awful games in their day.

Wow, you don't know what you're talking about and apparently didn't read anything I typed. Somehow... I'm not surprised.

    Here's the cliff notes kiddo:
Classic Tecno Soft made Thunder Force 1-IV (including AC), Herzog, Herzog Zwei, Dragon's Fury, Elemental Master, Hyper Duel, and more than likely Blast Wind. Aside from maybe the original Thunder Force, every thing I just listed is damn solid (classics half of the time).

Once the core Tecno Soft team left (i.e. the talent), thats when Tecno Soft started putting out stuff like Nekketsu Oyako, Reverthion, Steeldom, etc. Meanwhile, the talent at Tecno Soft was making stuff like Bulk Slash, Hagane, and Sapphire.

Not explaining it again. I've been a hardcore Tecno Soft fan for as long as I can remember, and I've done my research on 'em. And because of that, I know why TFV was a step down. And I don't care what anyone says, TFVI is NOT Tecno Soft's glorious return. Its Sega pulling another Alien Syndrome, NiGHTS Journey of Dreams, Panzer Dragoon Orta, Golden Axe, etc.

Er Tecnosoft have been around since the early 80s and they did make some clunkers on the X1, PC-88 and PC-68 machines. Thunderforce (the original) game wasn't that great (seen it running on a real PC-6601SR and the controls made for a frustrating game), still they did manage to do at least 4 Mahjong games so I suppose I shouldn't be too hard on them as they prove my theory that companies that made good shooters also made good Mahjong games. :D

I actually wrote that before I found out it was only on the PS2. Still, I could do it the 80's way

I remember playing the original Thunderforce on the PC88. It had the darby horse rasing theme for the BGM

And this is being made by the director of Gunstar Super Heroes. Anybody remember Gunstar Super Heroes? If not, here's a recap:

Cheap remake of the original game that was totally lame.

    Yep.

Yakuza on the PS2 was a quality game as long as you didn't look at it as a Shenmue wannabe. Oops, hang on, it's onthe PS2 so that must have been crap

I personally loved PDOrta and JSR Future... but that's me.

I see wait and see. I nearly shit myself when I saw this on PlayAsia. It could be phenomenal, could be average/iffy like NiGHTS Journey of Dreams was, or it could royally suck.

Tecnosoft page has been updated, there is now a link to the Thunder Force VI page.

As jp pointed out and rightly so TF6 is made by SEGA under licensed Twenty One Co Tecnosoft division...

Tecnosoft's website has been updated again, apparently now they are licensing their ip & brands to 3rd parties. Thunder Force VI must have done reasonably well in terms of sales then...

    http://www.tecnosoft.com/Jfm.html

Apparently a company released or plan to release some Thunder Force ship models, but I couldn't locate a picture on any of the sites mentioned.

Glad to see some activity, but a full TS revival seems unlikely, but still they seem to think their brands still have some equity.

Bring on TF VII  Treasure
