Sony Playstation2 TOOL disassembly guide VII

The new guide is finished. I am uploading it to UJ in a second and will hopefully have a *.ppt version and PDF version listed here within a few hours.

If you find any issues, you open your unit up and it differs, if there are any parts that are not mentioned that you find within your unit then please get in-touch. The guide is accurate to the best of my knowledge.

    Enjoy!

Excellent - thanks to everyone who participated and / or contributed! Special thanks to UJ for hosting, Festerfly and Barc0de for taking the time out to sort out the 2 PDF versions (the original is now defunkt in favour of the up-to-date one). Thanks to DRussian & Port187 for providing information. Thanks to MacWest also.

I spotted an error in it, one I've put myself, let's hope the reader's brain will correct it without even noticing :)

That's just not good enough UJ lol

Let me know what it is and I shall correct in the next version (assuming I ever get any other PS2 Tool versions, or other people find differences).

Tempted to try and find a T15k at some point...

I must give thanks, the guide definately helped me "repair" my new PS2 TOOL (no TOOL light, quick reseat of everything, all was well).

What I find odd is umm, per your guide, my board is the 10KH, but the sticker is a 10K (with the H slot). I can only assume that some of these units were upgraded to support the PCMCIA hdd.

And it works too, with small file access programs etc, now if only one of our utility disks would run!

If you (or anyone else) finds any minor or major differences can you please supply either UJ, Port or me with a good quality image. I'd really appreciate it - also make it clear what we are looking at. Thanks!

What CJ! is saying Parris is that any T10k that has a P.C slot, has it for a reason, i.e the slot is 'active' and an external Sony HDD will function.

Early T10k's had no 'H' slot.

...99.9% got sent back to be upgraded. (much like the early Xbox Alpha Dev Kits got new gfx cards, sound card etc)

...You may notice that on some T10k's they actually add a *tiny* 'H' sticker on the back of the machine indicating the 'new' port :)

...If you need a piccy of the aforementioned sticker give us a shout.

I have spotted that "H" sticker and wondered what it was for.

Okay, so if the Tool is equipped with a PCMCIA slot, it will definately work. That's great news as I was under the impression my older unit wouldn't accept the external HDD. I was actually a bit pi**ed off about that. I can relax lol.

    Thanks OE.
