    Close to the EDGE

EDGE magazine this month has a brief news item saying that the new Xbox2 kits are shipping. M$ are threatening the dev houses big style - the magazine quotes someone as saying "The non-disclosure agreement is nothing like you've seen".

Aren't you dying to know what one looks like?

Also, cool article on the making of Fairlight for the Spectrum - that game blew me away when I first saw it and then heard it - they redefined what a beep could do!

There's a one page artile on Tokyo Game Life - Yakumo - this should be YOU!!!!!

Worth buying EDGE me thinks if you're interested

The leaked photos have been out for a while, they are just modified Mac twin G5 chrome things.... you know, the ones that Apple claimed was the fastest home computer in the world then had to withdraw the adverts... :smt017

I've seen some of these pics, but never got the impression they were the actual machines....

Maybe they are pics of the actual kit.....there was even a picture of the back of a van with boxes in it!?>?!?.....(in this forum?)

I know yeah, not too far from me! Might be worth popping into Newport or Cardiff for a spot of game shopping if you get the chance.

It might be worth having a rummage through the old forum, to see if the thread with the devkit pictures are still there. But no doubt someone will post new images soon enough!

It's a bit on the fast side, but for those who remember Fairlight:

    http://www.spectrum.lovely.net/Fairlight.html

This is a Java applet spectrum emulator....play speccie games in your browser.....blows my mind how this is done....

Anyway, not quite the same without the music, but still impressive for it's day...

They appear to have stopped the retro bit....the Fairlight article was more around talking to a developer describing how the game was made, rather than retro itself.

It might be because there is a new Retro magazine out in the UK - perhaps its from the same publisher as EDGE and they don't want to compete amoungst themselves?

Hmm no more retro specials, okay no more reason to but the shitty mag then, i only bought the ones with retro special, i couldn't care less about the rest of the biased mag.

    /me loves Edge :smt043

Sure, they're a bit too negative about most games but I like their writing and it all looks so stylish :smt023

I think EDGE and GamesTM are both superb magazines. You can throw away the official magazines for a start in terms of review value - their editorial freedom is compromised by definition.

They(EDGE and GamesTM) are both perhaps aimed more specifically at a particular part of the market - and perhaps age bracket - i.e. those who are older and working and hence have more disposible income to spend on multiple platforms.

They are definitely more 'stuffy' than other magazines...

EDGE and GamesTM are critical of games, but they are equally critical to all games. The quality of the content and images are superb.

    Long may they run...

(Personally think GamesTM has an edge over EDGE, excuse the pun).
