Sending stuff to Paris from Japan IMPORTANT !

If anyone is going to send anything to Paris (so far the only place in France that has this rule) you MUST include the receivers phone number ! Most if not all countries don't care if there's a phone number or not however as of recently the French government have stated that all parcels going to Paris via recorded mail such as EMS MUST have the receivers telephone number otherwise the parcel will be returned to the sender.

This happened to me today and what's stupid is that the Japanese post office didn't even know ! It was the sorting office at Fukuoka Airport that told them :rolleyes:

There's a post office in Shibuya that says Canada is getting assholish about something like that (might be about contents, not phone number). Thanks for the heads up though.

Well,that's not true.
Chronopost, the delivery company in france for EMS foreign packages, want it because it is easier for contacting people if there is problems in delivery.
But it is not a "rule" at all. I can send Chronopost packages in France (from France) without writing the phone number on it,and it'll be perfectly delivered.
It is just a "precaution",and the guy who told that by phone is just quite strict,that's it. Another one wouldn't tick.

Apparently it is a rule in Japan. Rules in France are a mute point if the package will never get there... although I've sent many packages w/ no phone numbers on them.

No, it is not.
I receive dozens of packages around the world,and no one asked me my phone number.
By airmail,by Fedex,by DHL,by EMS,etc..

It is a rule which, i don't know why, apply in Japan.
But french authorities don't care about it.That's just an "help" for contacting the guy if there is a custom or delivery problem
Otherwise they just send you a letter, which of course is longer than a phone call.

Hmm, I received a letter from the Japanese postthat I will scfan if anyone wishes to read it. It's all in Japanese mind you. I seems strange that the Japanese will only single out Paris yet any other world capital or any other part of France seem to be uneffected. Well, apart from Canadian post being a bit of a pain at times.

The moral of the story is to make sure you fill out the EMS forms correctly and write telephone numbers in them.

I wouldn't dare to count the number of EMS parcels I've sent over the years. hundreds. Never once did I put a phone number other than mine on there.
