Thousands of rubber ducks to land on British shores

    http://www.dailymail.co.uk/pages/liv...n_page_id=1770

"They were toys destined only to bob up and down in nothing bigger than a child's bath - but so far they have floated halfway around the world.

The armada of 29,000 plastic yellow ducks, blue turtles and green frogs broke free from a cargo ship 15 years ago.
Since then they have travelled 17,000 miles, floating over the site where the Titanic sank, landing in Hawaii and even spending years frozen in an Arctic ice pack.
And now they are heading straight for Britain. At some point this summer they are expected to be spotted on beaches in South-West England."

That's cool. It does go to show that chemicals and toxins such as mercury, PBC, etc. travel long distances thru the ocean.

A hundred dollars for every one found. I'd start beachcombing if I were one of you guys in the UK.
Well, it's rather brutal here. Right now we are advising all our clients to put everything they've got into canned food and shotguns.

some months back a cargo ship ran aground a few hundred metres from the shore, some of the containers made it to the beach and that caused mass looting. People picked these containers filled with automotive parts and personal belongings etc clean. The Polive getting there late tried to cordon off the area but didnt have success. I wouldnt be surprised if the news cover it further we wouldnt see people scrambling to get them.

Yeah, did you see the footage of the 2 teenage lads recovering a brand new BMW motorbike from the wreckage and wheeling it up the beach? All of their childhood dreams came true lol

From what I can gather everyone got to keep the items they found so long as they declared them to the salvage department.

BMW were asked what they thought about the situation and they explained that the bikes would be worth nothing. Water logged and wave damaged they'd be lucky to get the bike roadworthy again.

Something tells me that was corporate speak for "I hate you!"

I really did feel quite bad for the families who had all their personal effects taken.

The downside was one woman who was moving abroad. All her stuff was aboard the ship and they actually showed people cracking open her container and helping themselves. :banghead:

They suggest that lighter material from that ship wreck will be turning up on French & UK shores for years to come.

A ship carrying expensive clothing sank off the channel islands many years ago and the islanders clothed themselves very well. Apparently items STILL turn up, but I guess they don't look nearly as cool these days. 1980's retro stuff with crab nips and shark bites... Hmmm?

fishing for cocaine and rubber ducks. A bed-time story!
You can ask for any old woman
You can ask for an army of ants
You can ask for a pillar of poison
You can ask for sheep and shavers

    And you can die for
Be careful what you wish for

I not sure about now but this happened quite a lot during the eighties and nineties off the coast of Florida. Smugglers would dump their cargo if they got spooked or were being chased by the Coast Guard and since they packed the stuff so well it would float to shore. I remember seeing a news story showing bails of a hundred kilos or more washing ashore. Finding one of those is like getting a Junior Kingpin starter kit.
