why do political topics constantly become locked??!!!

I'm back from vacation and see two new Poly topics locked!! This is the off topic section is it not? People are posting opinions that need to be heard...all opinions...I think everyone here knows where I stand but that doesn't mean I don't like hearing other viewpoints...theres no need to stop open discussion. It's sometimes heated but almost always friendly and respectfull.

    BTW Bush '04

Because they tend to get out of hand very quickly.

Because of the nature of political discussions. Politics is jsut one area where no one will budge from their point of view or opinion. Heatedly debating these points when it does nothing constructive whatsoever and detracts from the ASSEMbler boards raison d'etre; for example your saying 'Bush 04' and expanding on that isn't going to change anyone's mind who sees otherwise, but will create offense and animosity and in the end, always leads to flaming - always.

And anything that doubtlessy leads to flaming, is pointless.

They are closed for one reason and one reason only ! They cause too much tension. Personally I couldn't give two flying F@cks about these political discussions because they are always about the states, a place that I have no interest in what so ever. What I do object to is the amount of bitching that always goes on in these types of posts. Just get it in to your heads that the powers that be don't give a rats arse about your opinions on how they run a country or your opinions about them. All they are worried about is making money and gaining power. So all our views on what we think are pointless because none of them matter to the "Spin Doctors" in the end.

By the way, I've had quite a bit to drink so I've probably annoyed someone with this. Oh well, life goes on.

    rom the ASSEMbler boards raison d'etre;
what, we can say this in english now? oh well, that's cool. :smt023

(i would say french power but if english canadians are reading they would kill me; that's a good exemple of what exactly is politic flamining! :-D ( note : if you don't know what the hell im talking about, you don't really need to know it ; thats just a stupid war between english canadians and french ones ... i guess its the only war where the canadians are really participating! * :smt043 :smt043 ...ok i'll shut my mouth :smt043 ) )

    * ...and that's good like that . :drinkers:
"(...)A One World Government and one-unit monetary system, under permanent non-elected hereditary oligarchists who self-select from among their numbers in the form of a feudal system as it was in the Middle Ages. In this One World entity, population will be limited by restrictions on the number of children per family, diseases, wars, famines, until 1 billion people who are useful to the ruling class, in areas which will be strictly and clearly defined, remain as the total world population." Dont let media feed you with lies. open your eyes and search information yourself.

Yakumo, from what I know of you I think you're a great guy (as are the others on this board). I do however think its sad that you think we shouldn't share our opinions and views with each other because the powers that be don't care. It would be a sad world if we stop sharing our thoughts because of one party, or many, that don't care....these discussions do help. I've changed many stances in my beliefs because of discussions that have happened right here on this board. Regarding your not giving a Fuck about what happens in the US....I'm sorry...I would be happy to learn about other countries and their politics...It would take time for me to join in on some of the discussions as I wouldn't want to blindly say something without learning about the subject, but would still be willing....only good things can come from people of different countries discussing their views on things that affect us all.....now over to the main board for some game talk!!! :smt023

It's not that I don't think that we should not share our views. It's just that every time a political post is started it always turns in to a flame battle ground. This doesn't look good at all for the ASSEMbler forum. Maybe we should keep all the political stuff to the IRC channel?

I'm Sorry. I had had quite a bit to drink then. It's just that for the last year all we hear about is America this and America that. Here's another war. More killings in Iraq. What was the point of blowing up that woman with her baby? and so on. It may not be as noticable to those who are American and live there but to other parts of the world such as Europe or East Asia it's starting to grate a little, if you know what I mean. It's almost as if you know what the news reader is about to say.

I do actualy know quite a bit about other countries, America included. But I need a place to escape from the media like alot of other people. So the last place I want to see politics is on a gaming forum. This is a place of joy.

Exacttly. If you're concerned about politician's/mmedia's/military's/whatever's actions/abuses, it would follow that the logical thing to do is do something constructive about it with whatever little influence us little people have, if any. Posting opinions on a gaming messageboard isn't, frankly, going to do shit. When I post my own opinions on politics it's always in reaction to someone else's views that I see as flawed or ill-informed - I don't start threads on such issues - but in the end I know it's not going to make a difference. Getting out there and out of the way of your monitor (possibly) can.

Yakumo, I completely understand what your saying and I respect your opinion. I just think that this is the perfect place for our views as this the only outlet that some people feel comfortable with as we're all friends here. Its easier to talk to others with common interests even when we have differing opinions...I completely agree that if these topics were to come up in the main board that they should be deleted as thats not the fun we're after....I have no misconceptions that the leaders of the world will read these posts but learning the differing opionions of those around the world can only be good...kinda idealistic but hey I just played through Christmas Nights for the first time and I feel pretty happy....

The reason they get locked is because they lock it before I get to do my coup-de-grace post and make you all agree with my point of views. Be thankful for that :smt033 .

    Just kidding, duh.

I think the reason is that this site is VERY international, which means, I'm the only bush supporter on this website and the rest of you hate his guts. (well not that big of a supporter but hes a tiny-tincy-wincy bit better than kerry, enough of about that).

Yeh, its cuz this place is very diverse. So voicing your opinion is not allowed cuz they'll lock it, unless its scripted to where everyone will mildly accept it. Like communism.

But seriously, enough of the stupid sarcasm. Its because this place is diverse and the only way we tolerate each other is by talking about how big our collections are. Videogame collections that is.

What would you guys say if we had a section of the ASSEMbler forum dedicated just to political debate? There would be no locking of posts or deletions as long as what you post doesn’t collide with the ASSEMbler Forum rules, IE: No racist, sexual or degrading comments. Personally I think this is a good idea. You can post what ever is on your mind about the current political state of the world. The only rule being is that NONE of the political debates enter any other part of the board, even the Off Topic section.

If anyone is interested in this idea then let me know and we'll see if Kev' will make a new section to the board for political debate.

Look at my first post and you got your answer, but I am going to add to it. Personally, I don't like having Political discusions going on in a gaming forum. If you really want one that badly go ahead, but count me out. I hate political discussion.

I have to say I agree with Yakumo's reasoning in a way, and can say that I'd prefer not to have political topics allowed. Most of the political topics here are centered around American happenings, and frankly, I'm getting a bit sick of all the America bashing that happens with them. Yes, my country has problems, as do all of yours, and we have been screwing up on a rather large scale lately, it is true. And I'm not a terribly patriotic person either, but there comes a point where I'm getting goddamned sick and tired of all the US bashing that will inevitably start in these topics. The really infuriating thing is that some of the strongest opinions come from those people who don't even LIVE in the damned country, and half of the 'news' that opinions are based upon is so fucking farfetched, I'm compelled to wear my tinfoil hat while reading it! Regardless of who you are or where you get your news, just reading about things on the internet is VASTLY different than living in the country the news is talking about and seeing things from an inside perspective. It is for that reason that I'd prefer we didn't have any more political topics, as it usually ends up turning into an "Americans are stupid/brutish/blind/sheep/lazy/etc." and like I said, while I'm not too terribly fond of the way my country works sometimes, I don't need people halfway across the world telling me how bad a place they have never lived in sucks.

With the WW3 predictions topic yesterday, I realize that the majority of people who participated in it were only joking about the things they were said, however, there were a few posts that totally emphasized the point I was making in the above paragraph, and it was at that point I issued the warning for the topic. However, I did not lock it myself - when I returned from work the next day, I found somebody already had done so, lest anyone think I'm power tripping or anything.

And an apology to Silverbolt, who always seems to be online when I finish reading a topic that irritates me and gets ranted to... :smt043

It was I who locked it because it was getting out of hand. We have all calmed down now though :smt023

So far it looks like a few of use don't want any political section to the board. Maybe a pole should be made?

I think you should but that will be the most active forum on this message board. You should call it The Lightning Round.

While I'm one of the more active in the political threads I don't feel there is a need for a forum dedicated to politics. These threads just don't show up enough and should die down sometime after the election. Besides I thought this was what the off topic forum was exactly for. So these kinds of threads didn't spill into the game talk.

Off Topic, Fast cars, hot women , good music, and everything else.

I don't think making a political sub forum is such a good idea this is a game board not a political arena.

All topics in the past either about politics or about bush or michael moore got closed because it's basicly the USA members vs the rest of the worlds members and it only ends up in flame wars and anger/hate which is no good.

I like this forum due to the relaxed atmosphere and political topics only ruine it imho..

    I agree.

I too enjoy the relaxed atmosphere, and I don't want that ruined. As we saw in a recent thread, things got out of hand when one of the members shared some political humor with us, and the thread had to be locked. Also, being one of the US members, I hate having to go up against the rest of the board, especially since I hate political discussion, but I will not back down when my HOME country is being bashed by people that do NOT even live here, a great point brougt up by GSL.

I am totally against having a political section added. Honestly, I think that it will just cause hatred to spread throughout the entire forum.
