Well at least I can do one thing I always wanted.
ANd that is to put up a huge sign that says "All Your Base Are Belong To Us." in a country that USA recently invaded, like Iran or N. Korea. Then the whole world would see it and France would get pissed for some stupid reason and then me and my troops would establish a small group called The Citizens and after the whole debacle we'd be top political guys controlling USA/world. It's been done before many times.
That is horrible news, a draft in this day and time is complete and utter bullshit. Only way I'll ever serve in the armed forces is if there is another world war (God forbid) or some occasion where freedom is actually at risk.

I said it once before. There is not a chance in hell that the US will reinstate the draft. They will raise taxes to throw cash at recruits before they draft people. This is one of the fundamental lessons learned form Vietnam. It is far better to carry the burden with fewer people than add an unstable element like draftees.
I think what can safely be said is "There is no way they will reintroduce the draft before the election". Shipping citizens off to war-zones is not a good way to win votes.
Damn, and I am actually a US citizen even though I have never lived there. Hope it doesnt get out of hand... my dad actually escaped the Vietnam draft by being a student until one month before his 26th birthday, he was meant to get sent to Vietnam but he never actually got sent :smt017

This is a true story: at the "draftcenter" (I don't know the right word) I told them that I had a bad back, I were addicted to hash and cocain and that I was gay! but the still wanted me :smt019

I have always had a picture in my mind of americans being extremely "up on the barricades" when it comes to their rights and so on.. like they don't take crab from their politicians and such.. Those who get involved politically do it with everything they have, and have an excellent ability to ignore that which does not line up with the facts.
Thing is most people in the country are so fed up with all the liars and corruption in our political system that they don't even vote anymore. In 200 less than half of eligible voters ever bothered to show up. Contrast this with say, Russia, which consistantly gets 80-90% voter turnout.
So, amongst my circle of friends, hell yes Farenheit 9-11 got us all mad, but I'm sure many people out there simply ignored it becasue it didn't mesh with thier world view or whatever.
I would add that this ability to B.S. yourself into thinking your canidate is the perfect human being applies no matter what your party affiliation (Democrats do it as much as Republicans.) Too bad it's nearly impossible to tell them apart from each other anymore.
there are things you can do though. I'm an active member of EFF.org. Im not about taking away any of our freedoms bush and kerry are both horrible candidates, but sometimes yu have to deal with the lesser of two evils. I have alot against bush, this war, gay rights, patriot act, and alot of other political bull shit hes pulled. F9/11 shows it and does slightly exagerate it but everything in the documentary is true, and watching it made me hate bush more. I've said it to close friends and I say it to you. I think its about time we overthrew the government, made up a better system and got someone into office thats not biased (fat chance I know, but theres not much other choice). While you can vote, just voting doesnt mean whats right will be done, get involved. EFF.org is one of the last lines we have to defend our privacy and liberty, dont let the government trample over you, make them change or tell them to get out.

If anyone other than Michael Moore had produced Fahrenheit 9/11 I might have given it a serious look. But he proven himself time and again to use half-truths, cut and paste deceptions, and outright lies to get his point across. In my opinion he has lost all credibility as a documentarian. For the record I have not seen Fahrenheit 9/11 so I cant vouch completely for this link but it does give proven examples of how Michael Moore misleads viewers.

While I think Moore is on the opposite end of the spectrum than Bush, and a little too far, I don't disagree w/ everything he says. I think his methods are questionable, but considering his subject, he's not too far off.
The thing about "Americans and their rights" is that the backwoods hillbillies that make up a large part of America are uneducated on the rest of the world, and DO think that Al Qaeda and other evildoers do threaten our freedom. So, in the name of freedom, we use economically-challenged 18 year old young men to kill brown people of other nations. Always have, always will.
