Saturn and PSOne games that support widescreen mode.

    Hello guys.

Recently I've been spending a lot of time looking for PSOne and Saturn games that support 16:9 displays on widescreen TVs. Basically, to set up a game to support widescreen, you have to check if the game supports widescreen in the options menu. So far, after looking through my collection and with the help of HDTVarcade I was able to compile this small list:

    PSOne:

    Bust-A-Move '99
    C3 Racing/Max Power Racing
    Codename Tenka
    Colin McRae Rally
    Formula 1 (1996)
    Ghost In The Shell
    ISS Pro Evolution 2
    J-League Winning Eleven 2000
    J-League Winning Eleven 3
    J-League Winning Eleven '98-'99
    Madden NFL 2002
    Ms. Pac Man Maze Madness
    Pac-Man World
    Rush Hour
    Snow Racer '98
    Spyro 2 (NTSC-U version)
    This is football
    TOCA Championship Racing
    Trap Gunner
    Triple Play Baseball
    Wip3out
    Wip3out: Special Edition
    Worms Armageddon
Yarudora Series Vol. 1: Double Cast

    Saturn:

All Japan Pro Wrestling Featuring Virtua
    Christmas NiGHTS
    High Velocity
    NiGHTS
    Panzer Dragoon Zwei (II)
Saturn Bomberman (10 players HD mode)
    Touge: King of Spirits 2

My question is: are there more games to add here? I'm pretty sure there are. Come on, aren't there RPGs for these systems supporting 16:9? No fighting games for the PSOne (if you don't count Trap Gunner as one)?

I need your help, guys. I would like you to post here any onther game for Saturn and PSOne that support a 16:9 display format. Thanks in advance.

I thought Vampire Saviour did, but after checking it's just 'Saturn' or 'Arcade'.
Good money paid for all Sega Saturn Demo's/Promos/Proto's and beta's. PM me!

Doesn't Burning Rangers have a Wide Screen mode? I'm sure there are more Saturn games that support wide screen. Hmm, I think that a racing game does but which one? Maybe it was Code R but then again I doubt it.

Saturn Bomberman didn't actually use any type of "HD" mode, but did run in the console's maximum 704x480 resolution for ten-player matches. Also, I'm fairly certain that BR did indeed have a widescreen display option as well, though I haven't played it in a while so I can't be 100% sure of this...

Now I'm going to have to try all those games in widescreen.
PS1 Winning Eleven supports widescreen while none of the PS2 version do.

Yeah. I suspect Winning Eleven 2002 also supports widescreen, I just don't own the game, so I can't confirm this.

Besides, it's good to hear that BR has widescreen mode too. Does anyone know if Panzer Dragoon Saga supports widescreen too?

I was playing PDS just recently, pretty sure it doesn't. I would've checked and would've used it if possible.

Bomberman was running in 640x448 technically.

That's too bad... but thanks anyway. :icon_bigg

Doesn't anybody have any other game to add to this list? What about PSOne games? And what about fighting games... and RPGs? ;-)

Saturn Stella Assault is in wide screen (Game Cube Bio Hazard 4 style) plus also interlaced !! Looks very nice on later levels. Almost unlike a Saturn game in some points.

I know the Saturn was capable of displaying 640x448 as its maximum resolution in NTSC format, but wasn't the PAL equivalent 704x480? I've seen this figure mentioned before in relation to other games (such as Virtua Fighter 2, Last Bronx, Battle Arena Toshinden Ultimate Revenge Attack and Athlete Kings to name just a few) so many times it can't be a co-incidence...

    LOL
You shouldn't. I'm moving one of these days, the house I rent was sold and the greek law gives the new owner the right to "kick" me out. The other part is "c'mon let's be neighbors" in Greek.

Correct. Not all PAL games were full screen though, some had borders due to poor conversion from NTSC.

Anthaemia.: Anyway, that's enough crazy ranting and wild speculation for now...

How about PAL games that were optimized ? When you run them on a NTSC system the picture is stretched. Is this an increase in resolution or just a deformed image?

a deformed image can be a result of a stretch in scanning.

traditionally, TVs dont have a resolution, so switching from NTSC to PAL and vice versa will only differ the way the lines are scanned on the screen.

I see. So when I play the PAL Sega Touring Cars, the TV is stretching the image too far because it was optimized for PAL ir is it the Saturn?
