House of the Dead 2 (DC)

On the back of my copy of House of the Dead 2, it does not state that the game is compatible with the Dreamcast gun. I have tried to play with a gun, but the game doesn't recognize it. It has been my understanding that HotD2 should allow you to use a gun, so this leaves me a bit confused. Is there a version that doesn't allow it, or perhaps is my gun broken?

i m no DC expert, but I think it's safe to say that all copies of HoTD, except the PC version, support ze gun.

If you're using Sega's first party gun then it won't work on a US copy. They refused to release in in the US and just to throw salt in the wound added a lockout so import guns wouldn't work. Third party guns should work but I've heard they can have problems.

Also, What type of TV are you using? If I remember correctly lightguns will not work on Plasma or LCD TV's.
Well, it's rather brutal here. Right now we are advising all our clients to put everything they've got into canned food and shotguns.

Japanese / PAL game with official gun (JPN or EU) will work fine. Add a US system and then you've got trouble.

It's not the region system thats the problem but the game-region. Like stated by A.Snow ... the official Sega gun does not work with US copys of HotD, Conf.Mission. (however USA Smash Pack's Virtua Cop 2 does work with the official gun)

Wonder if theres a way to remove that check or maybe hack the official gun to look like an Interact StarFire.

Yeah, mine is the official gun, so that should be the reason. It's rather dissapointing that they did that, does anyone know the reason?

I don't understand why they chose not to sell the gun (and allowed Mad Catz to release an officially licensed one) but had no problems with its games. It seems they feared negative feedback after the Columbine massacre (it's on the wikipedia link from A. Snow)

Btw PAL gun / PAL game work just fine.

Wow, I just realized that the gun itself wasn't released over here, I'm a bit slow today I guess. Now finding it at Goodwill makes me feel a little bit luckier.

Because the games weren't being used with a "Sega" gun.

    It's all marketing.

    Sega released the Dreamcast.
Sega DID NOT release a gun in the US.

If someone else released a gun, oh well, their problem.

Sega simply took steps to ensure that its own gun wouldn't work with the major title it was shipping...unless of course you have an earlier, prototype version of the game. :)

yes, as with nintendo, they wanted to avoid the whole media attacking them for Gun-games etc.

Nevertheless, by officially licensing a gun they're still liable as if it was a first party accessory. In that respect, I don't see why they didn't get better PR people or lawyers.

It was because of Columbine, or other school violence I'm pretty sure... I guess SEGA just wanted to play it safe.. 3rd party guns work fine, I really do love this game, best light gun game I've played..

Which is really funny now since you could consider the Wiimote a lightgun...
    PouncingKitten Games
Xbox 360 - Glide, Bingo Party, Poker Night, O.C.D.
    Flash - BunnyRun, Tic-Tac-Poker

Are there any light gun games for the Wii? There should be.... =/

there's a Duckhunt rip-off on Wii Play. You shoot ducks so.. Also, all FPS titles on it could be considered Light gun games, but not in the traditional sense.
