i had a similar problem with another virus after i formatted my pc. My suggestion is if you decide to format again, download AVG and burn it on a CD before formatting. Then reinstall Windows and install AVG before even thinking going to internet.

A firewall would be good too. You can get Zone Alarm for free. Be aware to install a firewall and the antivirus before going to the internet. Set the security on the firewall, then use the internet.

After doing that i got MSN, Mozilla, plus a lot of stuff and everything is running fine.

By the way, i wonder why people use Internet Explores when there's browsers like Mozila, Firefox (as you mentioned you got) and Opera.

    1. Almost any virus can be removed without reformat

    2. boot in safe mode and run from safe mode command line if possible. Some viruses can't be removed easily unless in safe mode.

    3. Get Mcafee STINGER (free on mcafee.com)
    4. Get Panda antivirus free trial (scans memory before running, regs mem resident viruses)
    5. get a program called TROJAN REMOVER. (get rid of trojans, enough said)
    6. Get AVG antivirus (good for another scan. I don't believe in using ONE Product. Multiple scans with programs will get 99% of programs)
    7. Get "hijackthis" (a bit complicated, but will remove 90% of registry hacks and browser exploits)
    8. Get adaware free trial (great for spyware that hijacks or tracker cookies)
    9. Get Spysweeper trial (gets some stuff that adaware doesn't)
    10. Then install Norton and do a scan (after update). Norton usually sucks, but it'll be your final scan.
    (all available on download.com)
Make sure your os is patched!! Patches for sasser, etc.

Makes sure you have a HARDWARE firewall. No firewall
and I'll be in your pc in a few minutes.

You probably have an exploit , registry hack or trojan.
Most likely it is just some crap file in your internet explorer temp area.

    If you do a re-install:

Do a destructive format. If you suspect a rare boot sector virus (improbable) low level format the drive with the mfg. tools.

If you cannot get rid of a virus (blocked ny virus) you must do it from safe mode command line only (you can open a program like normal in command line mode)

    Good luck.

I have cleared hundreds of terribly infected pcs of viruses..I have special tools I made I could send you, but your pc is already screwed.

That or just install Windows without physically connected to the net.

Also, by physical Firewall, assembler, do you mean a NAT Firewall? Like the kind that's found in a Linksys router?

Like a hotbrick, a router firewall is o.k., better than software by sure.

Someone instaled soem program called "SuperRAM" on my system (I'm guessing it was my idiot brother) and now whenever I boot up I get a warning that telles me I've been reported to be using Illegal software (I guess he got it from Suprnova or something).

Anybody here have any suggestions on -

    A) The chances of the message being real and not a hoax to try and get me to buy the software now to cover my ass

    B) Removing the message

Also, AVG deteced a trojan right as I turned my PC on today BUT when I scan with AVG it finds no Trojan. I tried booting into safe mode except AVG would no longer run anymore. Any help appreciated :)
I agree to all auction Guidlines. Still.

A router or other hardware firewall is nice, but things can even slip through that (which is why I had to install ZoneAlarm), so like assembler said, don't rely on just one thing.

Well, I think you answered your own question there - people use IE BECAUSE there are these other browsers. I don't know about anyone else, but with as far as browsers have come lately, I'm not too keen on going back to the Netscape core for some slow-as-molasses browsing (Mozilla). And I've given Firefox and Opera a shot, and they just don't feel the most easily accessable. My solution for using IE (aside from the religious downloading of patches) was to get AvantBrowser - it's an enhancement for IE that adds things like tabbed browsing, popup blocking, a Google search bar, mouse gestures, and all the other stuff that the latest and greatest browsers have. Plus, it has a whole slew of configurable security options to help minimize the shit you pick up off the internet.
