    PS3=N64?

I know this sounds ridiculous at first glance...but still more and more clues lately are summing up to this conclusion to me it seems. Little or no information about the console flying around, strong competitor's innovation rate..Do we stand on the edge of a new U-Turn of the videogame industry? Share your thoughts.

Each PS3 will come with one Sixaxis, but the controller can also be bought separately for $49.99 each. However the wireless remote's rechargeable battery will be built in, meaning it will have to be sent in to Sony when it inevitably runs out of juice--or replaced entirely.
Sounds like a "hey look, we've got that too!" - or not?

Some more good Sony brand designed in failure, you know everyone will just buy a new one because Sony will charge $20 plus shipping to put in a new battery.

    How GHEY.

I hate how they use the same controller but add some useless new "feature" so everyone is forced to buy new ones. I bet this "sixaxis" thing is going to be just about as retarded as "pressure sensitive buttons" on Ps2.

Come on Sony and make a new controller already.

no , they are. they cause finger-ache for me,compared to ps1 pads. In games like GTA, pressing the X button hard makes ur car go faster etc.

Also makes playing MGS3 pain in the butt, too, when trying to shoot someone. Sometimes I press down too hard and gun goes off and I miss and guy sounds the alarm, etc.

Yes, Sony claims them to have 256 different pressure's, but how the hell could that be when the buttons only press about 1/8 of an inch down, give me a break, your thumb could never sense the difference.

All it ever did for me was make my thumb hurt when playing GT3/4 and Ridge Racer.

Truthfuly I don't think ps3 is the next n64. Nintendo has not been making all the right moves either. If anything this generation, Microsoft will controll a much larger share of the NA & Europe markets. Where japan will be more ps3 but Wii gaining more ground then the gamecube.

I also truely don't want to come home from work and freaking fling a Wii controller all over the place to play zelda. Yet seeing the ps3 controller in action for the new tony hawk game makes pretty damn good sense.

As for the ps3 controller battery. Sure it would be nice if it was removable and could be replased but atleast as is you dont have to freaking buy a battery pack or AA battiers for the damn thing (much like you do have to for Wii & 360).

also just small fyi, I am not a sony fanboy (I love my psp but thats as far as it goes). I still lack a ps2 yet have a xbox & xbox 360 (also still getting a wii this year).

Its 256 because the value registered is 8bit. so it registers a value between 0 and 255.

i would by far more say ps3=3do m2
if sony canned the thing right now it would be history repeating itself =)

Ok, I can agree with that, but I still say how could you ever push it at increments of 1 or 2 when the button only goes down about 1/8th of an inch.

I hope that the "sixaxis" is not as useless as the pressure sensitive buttons, but it seems kinda gimmicky to me.

Ps3 will not be another N64 or 3DO/M2, but I pesonally don't think it will live up to even half the hype Sony has put out there.

Remember all the bullshit about the "Emotion Engine" and "Graphics Synthesizer", more of the same with Ps3 hype.

But I know it will be the No.1 seller, even at the rediculous price of $600.

I am getting one, but we will see how long I keep it, when Ps2 came out I got it on launch day, but only kept it about a month and sold it to a freind.

Actualy i'm quite impressed with how a few games were using the ps3 controller already. I for sure though all would ignore it but already there are some good uses for it. Probably the one I enjoy the most is Tony Hawk Project 8. I mean really if I just came home from a long day at work and wanted to relax and play a game and my choices werel Zelda Wii or THP8. God I would take thp8 in a heart beat because I dont want to stand up and swing a controller around where more on thp8 you use it to make controlling the game simpler.

Just my take. Still not geting a ps3 till next year when it drops in price some or more games are avalible.

Even zelda doesnt need "stand-up/swing" motions all the time. The movements required are marginal (although i m sure some people will even cosplay and make a foam sword for the damn thing :p )

Yeah the sixaxis has some of that absurdity of the N64 controller.

The lack of rumble and odd design is something both controllers have. If they add that crappy analog from the N64 to the sixaxis then we could say these are bloodbrothers.

About the PS3 console per se, I say is more like the Saturn: you got this big ass, expensive black box that has barely more raw power than that other console, but since it was designed by aliens with butts-for-eyes then is hard as shit to code for, so the extra power ends up in a limbo between Hitler's skull and the WTC relief fund...

Plus there are other similarities, like the fact SEGA was loosing market at the time just like sony is doing now, and both have failed in the portable market and their other products (in the case of sony, from other divisions that arent SCE) were/are either failing or just below the line.

Well when you look at the big picture and know that Sony is a consumer electronics conglomerate, not a videogame hardware company like Sega and Nintendo are, then I doubt that PS3 will end up like the N64, or Saturn, or M2. The shareholders will just be losing money like they have been for the past 3 years now.

Look again at my last post: sony is loosing money in almost every area, they even had top close down the robot division that, while not a big source of cash it didnt gave any loses either, and it was a great investment for the future.

So since the PSP is already a failure (or just an inch close to be that) if the PS3 flops too the shareholders may choose to let SCE go...

Dout it. Ps3 would really have to flop. PSP on the other hand is not a failure. It's by large is the 2nd best selling system in japan. It also for the most part outsold the DS in usa & europe up untill the DS lite came out. I belive once the ps3 is in full swing the psp will improve alot. Hell already the psp is offering a really good selection this & next month (ign already has scored 1 9.0 game and 3 8.0-8.9 games just this past week only).

Going past that. SCE division is by large one of the more profitable divisions. It's only been loosing money like crazy over the R&D of the PS3. I think also recent word is after some restructuring its not bleeding money like crazy anymore.

Actually I think Sony Computer Entertainment is the only money making division. I read that they are losing money on everything else they sell, because their product is no longer so superior to everyone elses stuff like it used to be.

They even just recently got out of making plasma tv's cause of too much competition.

They couldn't get people to buy their over priced shit anymore. On second thought, maybe what I said before about Ps3 selling well despite it's huge pricetag was wrong.

I don't want them to go out of business or pull out of the console market, but I would like to see some of thier arrogance, and "we will decide when the next generation starts" attitude wiped away by M$ and Nintendo.

Yeah, also, I remember that in the Metal Gear Solid games, you release the fire button slowly to put back your gun instead of firing. I didn't realize how useful that was until I played the Metal Gear remake on the Gamecube, where you had to press two buttons at the same time to achive the same thing.

Come to think of it, someone told me that the first Tekken for the PS2 also used the pressure sensitivity, was that true?
